Inorganic Geochemistry and Redox Dynamics in Bank Filtration Settings

TL;DR: This review presents the four main geochemical processes relevant for inorganic geochemistry, with a focus on iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn), during bank filtration: reduction near the bank, oxidation near the production well, carbonate dissolution, and sorption to aquifer materials.
Journal ArticleDOI

Manganese Oxidation Induced by Water Table Fluctuations in a Sand Column

TL;DR: In this article, a column of quartz sand fed with anoxic influent solution and subject to 1.3 m water table changes every 30-50 h was tested for the potential for DO introduced in this manner to oxidize manganese(II) (Mn(II)), mediated by the obligate aerobe Pseudomonas putida GB-1, and both measured net oxidation rates and XAS analysis suggest microbial oxidation as the dominant process.
