Effect of exercise training on plasma levels of C-reactive protein in healthy adults: the HERITAGE Family Study
Timo A. Lakka,Hanna Maaria Lakka,Tuomo Rankinen,Arthur S. Leon,D. C. Rao,James S. Skinner,Jack H. Wilmore,Claude Bouchard +7 more
TL;DR: Plasma C-reactive protein levels are reduced in response to exercise training in sedentary healthy adults with high initial C- reactiveprotein levels, a finding that may partly explain the effectiveness of regular physical activity in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Meta-analysis identifies common and rare variants influencing blood pressure and overlapping with metabolic trait loci

Psaty,Ruth J. F. Loos,Myriam Fornage,Myriam Fornage,Georg Ehret,Georg Ehret,Christopher Newton-Cheh,Daniel Levy,Daniel Levy,Daniel I. Chasman +105 more
TL;DR: This large collection of blood pressure–associated loci suggests new therapeutic strategies for hypertension, emphasizing a link with cardiometabolic risk.
Journal ArticleDOI
Contribution of body fatness and adipose tissue distribution to the age variation in plasma steroid hormone concentrations in men: the HERITAGE Family Study.
Charles Couillard,Jacques Gagnon,Jean Bergeron,Arthur S. Leon,Dabeeru C. Rao,James S. Skinner,Jack H. Wilmore,Jean-Pierre Després,Claude Bouchard +8 more
TL;DR: It is suggested that age-related differences in plasma steroid hormone levels, especially androgens, are partly mediated by concomitant variation in adiposity in men.
Journal ArticleDOI
Racial differences in abdominal depot–specific adiposity in white and African American adults
Peter T. Katzmarzyk,George A. Bray,Frank L. Greenway,William D. Johnson,Robert L. Newton,Eric Ravussin,Donna H. Ryan,Steven R. Smith,Claude Bouchard +8 more
TL;DR: The heterogeneity of human body fat distribution across racial groups is highlighted, and abdominal visceral adiposity is significantly greater in white men and women.
Journal ArticleDOI
Genomic scan for maximal oxygen uptake and its response to training in the HERITAGE Family Study.
Claude Bouchard,Tuomo Rankinen,Yvon C. Chagnon,Treva Rice,Louis Pérusse,Jacques Gagnon,Ingrid B. Borecki,Ping An,Arthur S. Leon,James S. Skinner,Jack H. Wilmore,Michael A. Province,Dabeeru C. Rao +12 more
TL;DR: Results indicate that linkages at P values of 0.01 and better are observed with markers on 4q, 8q, 11p, and 14q for VO(2 max) before training and with markers for the change in VO( 2 max) in response to a 20-wk standardized endurance training program.
