Abstract: ReSUMo This paper addresses the views of the residents of two Portuguese small villages on tourism and tourists. Starting by discussing rural areas as tourism destinations, the paper aims at unveil local perceptions and attitudes regarding the impacts and the benefits of tourism activities in the communities, as well as local views on the interaction processes with tourists. Empirical evidence demonstrates that interaction, although appreciated, is not valued in the same way in the two villages, reflecting diverse stages of tourism development. However, perceptions on the impacts and main beneficiaries of tourism activities are quite similar in the two communities, following the main findings of literature regarding residents’ attitudes towards rural tourism and demonstrating a clear valorisation of the economic and social over the environmental impacts. In the same sense, local residents identify the main beneficiaries of tourism positive economic impacts with the agents related to the supply of tourism activities. TL;DR: The concept of "turismo sostenible" as mentioned in this paper was proposed as a way of ofrecer una experiencia digna y enriquecedora al turista, responding a creciente preocupacion por los impactos negativos del turismo inlas areas of destino.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors investigated landscape preferences in the Tejo/Tajo International Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (Portugal/Spain), where Dehesa/Montado and traditional olive groves play important economic and sociocultural roles.
Abstract: Areas with low levels of transformation are alternative destinations for tourists who prefer to visit nonmassified places and have singular experiences. The benefits of these microdestinations are their local populations, traditional products, landscapes, and heritage, which, in turn, allow the cultural and gastronomic roots to be witnessed. Based on this assumption, the present research investigated landscape preferences in the Tejo/Tajo International Transboundary Biosphere Reserve (Portugal/Spain), where Dehesa/Montado and traditional olive groves play important economic and sociocultural roles. This investigation sought to compare the opinions of those who live there with those who visit the territory in terms of landscape and agritourism experience preferences. To this, 439 interviews were conducted, and the results were extracted through descriptive analysis techniques and parametric and nonparametric tests to understand the different opinions. The main results were that agricultural landscapes are among the most preferred, and visitors tend to give the landscape higher scores, while the local population has some ignorance of its potential. The potential of agritourism was revealed through the motivation expressed by the demand to participate in gastronomic experiences and have contact with local products, followed by participation in activities that allow people to enjoy the agricultural landscape and rural traditions. The results revealed that the agritourism concept is often confused with rural tourism and nature tourism. Thus, it is necessary to develop a strategy to support the tourism supply according to the concept of authentic agritourism. In this way, agricultural activity has an important role in driving sustainable tourism dynamics in cross-border regions and boosting new products based on the culture, nature, and biodiversity characteristics of a protected area.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors analyzed residents' impact perceptions and attitudes towards wine tourism development in a Portuguese hinterland region and found that the residents have rather positive attitudes towards tourism development with perceived and anticipated social, economic, cultural and environmental benefits.
Abstract: PurposeThe study analyses residents' impact perceptions and attitudes towards wine tourism development in a Portuguese hinterland region. It additionally assesses heterogeneity within the community regarding these perceptions and attitudes to inform wine route managers about possible implications and to aid adequate intervention for sustainable regional tourism development.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from February to August 2020 among the residents of Beira Interior Region (n = 272), via a survey, regarding tourism development and impact perceptions (social, economic, cultural and environmental) of the emerging wine route.FindingsResults reveal that the residents have rather positive attitudes towards tourism development with perceived and anticipated social, economic, cultural and environmental benefits. Some negative perceptions were also observed. Differences amongst residents, based on age, education and sector of activity, are also assessed and implications discussed. The latter lie mostly in suggestions regarding sensitization of residents, particularly the older and less educated, and community inclusion in engaging, endogenous-resource-based, co-created wine tourism experience development.Originality/valueThe paper provides an analysis of the community's view of rural wine tourism development, going beyond the generally studied business and market perspectives. The community's perspective is important not only due to its central stake in place development, but also its role in preserving local culture, specifically food and wine traditions, providing a welcoming atmosphere and possibly engaging in innovative, co-creative tourism experiences, permitting the generation of benefits to all involved. Community involvement is relevant from the very beginning of the destination development cycle, and hence pertinent for this emergent wine tourism route as well.

TL;DR: In this paper, a comparison between two similar destinations was made between Ibiza (418 residents) and Maldonado-Punta del Este (360 residents), and the main conclusion is that causal models are not generals and priorities of residents vary from one destination to another.
EnglishSince the nineties, have been proposed causal models that seek to explain the attitudes of residents on the basis of perceived benefits and costs. The aim of this study is to determine if there are significant differences between two similar destinations. The comparison was made between Ibiza (418 residents) and MaldonadoPunta del Este (360 residents). To analysis the causal model proposed the statistical method used was the regression Partial Least Squares (PLS). Multi-group analysis found significant differences in one of the causal effects analyzed. In two causal relationships the difference was important, although not significant enough to conclude that there were differences between both destinations. The main conclusion is that causal models are not generals and priorities of residents vary from one destination to another.
