Journal ArticleDOI
Carcass characteristics, physicochemical changes and oxidative stress indicators of meat from sheep fed diets with coffee pulp
Teodulo Salinas-Rios,M.T. Sánchez-Torres-Esqueda,Jorge Hernández-Bautista,Antonio Díaz-Cruz,Cuauhtémoc Nava-Cuellar,M.E. Ortega-Cerrilla,J.L. Cordero-Mora,H. Vaquera-Huerta,J.L.F. Velasco +8 more
TL;DR: The inclusion of coffee pulp in the diet did not alter the amount of crude protein or fat in meat or its oxidation and antioxidant capacity during refrigerated storage, however, the inclusion of Coffee pulp decreased fat in the rumen and intestines, and thus increased the amounts of usable meat.
Journal ArticleDOI
Oxidative status and fertility of ewes supplemented coffee pulp during estrous ¤ synchronization and early pregnancy
Teodulo Salinas-Rios,María Teresa Sánchez-Torres-Esqueda,Antonio Díaz-Cruz,José Luis Cordero-Mora,Mario Cárdenas León,Jorge Hernández-Bautista,Cuauhtémoc Nava-Cuellar,Rafael Nieto Aquino +7 more
TL;DR: Although supplementation with coffee pulp at 25% in the concentrate increased antioxidant capacity of ewes before insertion of progestogen, it is not recommended to use this percentage during synchronization or early pregnancy since it can negatively affect gestation rate.
Journal ArticleDOI
Coffee pulp supplementation prior to breeding improves oxidative status without affecting fertility of primiparous ewes
Lizbet K Gutiérrez-Prado,María Teresa Sánchez-Torres-Esqueda,Teodulo Salinas-Rios,José Luis Figueroa-Velasco,José Alfredo Martínez-Aispuro,David A Contreras-Caro-Del-Castillo,Mario Cárdenas-León,Cuauhtémoc Nava-Cuellar,José Luis Cordero-Mora,José Luis García-Cué +9 more
TL;DR: Inclusion of up to 10% coffee pulp in the diet of ewe lambs for 16 days prior to breeding improves oxidative status without causing adverse effects on pregnancy, estrus or prolificacy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effect of Oregano (Lippia graveolens) Essential Oil as a Phytogenic Feed Additive on Productive Performance, Ruminal Fermentation, and Antioxidant Activity in Lamb Meat
A. Muñoz-Cuautle,M.E. Ortega-Cerrilla,José G. Herrera-Haro,Cuauhtémoc Nava-Cuellar,Carlos Gutiérrez-Olvera,J.E. Ramı́rez-Bribiesca,Pedro Zetina-Córdoba +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors evaluated the effect of oregano essential oil (OEO) as a phytogenic feed additive in the diet of lambs on the productive performance, ruminal pH, ammoniacal nitrogen production, volatile fatty acids, nitrogen balance, carcass yield, backfat thickness, loin eye (Longissimus dorsi) area, shelf life, and antioxidant activity of the meat.
