Use of proton pump inhibitors and risk of hip/femur fracture: a population-based case-control study.

TL;DR: There is probably no causal relationship between PPI use and hip fracture risk, and although current use of PPIs was associated with a 1.2-fold increased risk of hip/femur fracture, the positive association was attenuated with longer durations of continuous use.

Common variants at 12q15 and 12q24 are associated with infant head circumference

H. Rob Taal, +180 more
TL;DR: A meta-analysis of genome-wide association studies and lead signals showed suggestive evidence of association with head circumference in infancy, indicating that a common genetic variant in this region might link early brain growth with neurological disease in later life.
Journal ArticleDOI

Diagnosis and epidemiology of osteoporosis.

TL;DR: This article will review recent advances surrounding the epidemiology of osteoporosis, the burden of fracture in children and adults in this country and abroad, morbidity associated with such fractures, associations of disease and medication with fragility fracture, and advances in diagnostic techniques and identification of at-risk groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Association between bisphosphonate use and implant survival after primary total arthroplasty of the knee or hip: population based retrospective cohort study.

TL;DR: In patients undergoing lower limb arthroplasty, bisphosphonate use was associated with an almost twofold increase in implant survival time and these findings require replication and testing in experimental studies for confirmation.
