TL;DR: The unprecedented sensitivity of the detectors allows us to set strain upper limits as low as a few times 10(-24), which translate into limits on the equatorial ellipticities of the pulsars, which are smaller than 10(-5) for the four closest pulsars.
Abstract: We place direct upper limits on the amplitude of gravitational waves from 28 isolated radio pulsars by a coherent multidetector analysis of the data collected during the second science run of the LIGO interferometric detectors. These are the first direct upper limits for 26 of the 28 pulsars. We use coordinated radio observations for the first time to build radio-guided phase templates for the expected gravitational-wave signals. The unprecedented sensitivity of the detectors allows us to set strain upper limits as low as a few times 10^(-24). These strain limits translate into limits on the equatorial ellipticities of the pulsars, which are smaller than 10^(-5) for the four closest pulsars.

TL;DR: The first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation was reported in this paper.
Abstract: Although CP violation in the B meson system has been well established by the B factories, there has been no direct observation of time-reversal violation. The decays of entangled neutral B mesons into definite flavor states (B^0 or B^0), and J/ψK_L^0 or cc K_S^0 final states (referred to as B_+ or B_-), allow comparisons between the probabilities of four pairs of T-conjugated transitions, for example, B^0→B_- and B_-→B^0, as a function of the time difference between the two B decays. Using 468×10^6 BB pairs produced in Υ(4S) decays collected by the BABAR detector at SLAC, we measure T-violating parameters in the time evolution of neutral B mesons, yielding ΔS_T^+=-1.37±0.14(stat)±0.06(syst) and ΔS_T^-=1.17±0.18(stat)±0.11(syst). These nonzero results represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors show the context of analysis and the first results of a research on media temporalities of the elderly, showing that the global relation of the autonomous elderly persons to the media can evolve when confronted to their new temporal framework and the new program offer, whereas their representations and use of the media remain quite stable.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors search for doubly charmed baryons in e(+)e(-) annihilations at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV, in a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 232 fb(-1) recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at Stanford Linear Accelerator Center.
Abstract: We search for the production of doubly charmed baryons in e(+)e(-) annihilations at or near a center-of-mass energy of 10.58 GeV, in a data sample with an integrated luminosity of 232 fb(-1) recorded with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II storage ring at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. We search for Xi(+)(cc) baryons in the final states Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+) and Xi(0)(c)pi(+), and Xi(++)(cc) baryons in the final states Lambda K-+(c)-pi(+)pi(+) and Xi(0)(c)pi(+)pi(+). We find no evidence for the production of doubly charmed baryons.

TL;DR: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one, which seems an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality.
Abstract: There is, I think, something ethereal about i —the square root of minus one. I remember first hearing about it at school. It seemed an odd beast at that time—an intruder hovering on the edge of reality. Usually familiarity dulls this sense of the bizarre, but in the case of i it was the reverse: over the years the sense of its surreal nature intensified. It seemed that it was impossible to write mathematics that described the real world in …

TL;DR: In this paper, a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) is presented.
Abstract: Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones.
