Abstract: The Internet of Things (IoT) and it's applications are considered as one of the pillars of the Future Internet. One of the main concepts behind IoT is Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communication. This paper presents a possible way to design and implement communication and processing in Machine-to-Machine environment. The proposed approach is the result of experience acquired in designing applications for home networks area being a part of the Future Internet Engineering (FIE) project. Two applications described in the paper use Extensible Messaging and Presence Protocol (XMPP) for communication and Complex Event Processing (CEP) for handling data streams.

Abstract: This chapter presents Public Participation GIS (PPGIS) methods and tools based on open data, public input and Web 2 technologies, employed in participatory urban planning processes. The recent focus on sustainable urban development and livability has increased the demand for new data sourcing techniques to capture experiences, preferences and values of urban dwellers. At the same time, developments of geospatial technologies and social media have enabled new types of user-generated geographic information and spatially explicit online communication that is place-specific and often content-rich. As a result, new methods for engaging large groups of individuals that supplement, and sometimes, supplant traditional methods (e.g. public meetings) have emerged. Despite different application domains (e.g. land use and zoning, transportation, urban revitalization, green infrastructure and landscape audit), many participatory planning processes have shared common steps, in which PPGIS/Geoweb methods have been applied including (1) collection of values and preferences to inform the creation of plan draft and (2) discussion and feedback from participants on the plan draft. This chapter presents two methods and the corresponding tools that have been used by the authors in a number of participatory planning cases between 2014 and 2017. The cases concerning various planning problem and scales have been situated in two metropolitan areas of Poland.

Abstract: In this paper we introduce the idea of integrating high security level services to support law enforcement with high-tech crime investigation. We take advantage of a process-oriented approach to model the interaction between services according to SOA principles. This approach, called static integration, is sufficient for a broad area. In a homeland security environment, however, the situation poses new challenges. It must be able to handle rapidly changing situations as relevant information may come up during execution time. The solution comes with dynamic service integration that extends the basic integration model with automatic service discovery.

Abstract: Video surveillance systems have become very popular these days. In households, enterprises and even cities the monitoring systems have been deployed to improve the sense of safety. The large number of video cameras require a new, smart approach to browsing and analyzing video streams. There is a lot of research on motion detection, face recognition or integration with external sensors. We notice the lack of efficient and flexible solutions for managing video streams for public or private security. In this paper we would like to focus on managing video sources in the service-oriented manner for a large scale domain. Simplifying monitoring configuration and usage is also in the scope of our interest.

Abstract: This study aims at analyzing the performance results of the European policies in energy investment within an integrated multidimensional quality measurement approach. For this purpose, the quality function deployment is adopted to the multidimensional performance measurement based on the balanced scorecard method. The dimensions and criteria of customer and technical requirements, process design, and performance measurement are defined to measure each process of QFD (Quality Function Deployment) for the energy investment policies with the supported literature. Within this context, the customer and technical requirements for energy investment policies are evaluated by considering the fuzzy decision matrix in the first process of the QFD and then, the technical requirements are used to rank the new service/product process of the energy investments in the second process of QFD. The balanced scorecard perspectives and the key factors are defined to rank the European energy investment policies respectively. Accordingly, the possible priorities of the European energy investment policies are discussed to conduct the most remarkable and efficient energy operations and the relevant results to contribute the improvement of energy sector are highlighted.

Abstract: Pakistan has long relied on fossil fuels for electricity generation. This is despite the fact that the country is blessed with enormous renewable energy (RE) resources, which can significantly diversify the fuel mix for electricity generation. In this study, various renewable resources of Pakistan—solar, hydro, biomass, wind, and geothermal energy—are analyzed by using an integrated Delphi-analytical hierarchy process (AHP) and fuzzy technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution (F-TOPSIS)-based methodology. In the first phase, the Delphi method was employed to define and select the most important criteria for the selection of RE resources. This process identified four main criteria, i.e., economic, environmental, technical, and socio-political aspects, which are further supplemented by 20 sub-criteria. AHP is later used to obtain the weights of each criterion and the sub-criteria of the decision model. The results of this study reveal wind energy as the most feasible RE resource for electricity generation followed by hydropower, solar, biomass, and geothermal energy. The sensitivity analysis of the decision model results shows that the results of this study are significant, reliable, and robust. The study provides important insights related to the prioritizing of RE resources for electricity generation and can be used to undertake policy decisions toward sustainable energy planning in Pakistan.
