Medical information is extremely high sensitive in nature. Tampering by a third party may result in identity theft and incorrect diagnosis. Hence, it is important to secure the transfer of medical information from the patient to the remote system where the specialist. The proposed work decomposes this problem into two sub-problems and proposes security solutions to each of them: (1) to secure the link between the patient and the device, and (2) to secure the link between the device and the network. Biometric identification is extremely an effective authentication. Thus we push the limits of the network security to the edge by authenticating the user using their biometric information; authenticating the device to the network at the physical layer and strengthening the security of the wireless link using steganography. The proposed authentication methods can be used for recording the medical data in a central database and for accessing medical records in various settings. An algorithm for visual cryptography and steganography is built using MATLAB platform. The proposed work considers iris images for authentication it was taken from CASIA Iris Image Database V4.0.

Secure transmission of medical information using IRIS recognition and steganography

Visual cryptography schemes (VCS) consider the problem of encrypting and sharing images (printed text, hand written notes, pictures, etc.) in a perfectly secure way which can be decrypted directly by the human visual system. A k out of n VCS for is a technique by which a secret image (SI) is shared among n users called share-holders, when k or more users stack their shares (transparencies) together, the SI becomes visible, while k-1 or less users gain no information about SI. This paper presents a strategy by which more than one SI can be shared simultaneously among the n users using exactly the same shares required for the existing (k, n)-VCS without any extra pixel expansions or any other type of overheads over that required for the already existing schemes. The only requirement is a little effort in orienting and distributing the pixels among the shares. The strategy reduces the number of distributed shares required for multiple SI’s and at the same time preserves the perfect security of the existing schemes. Moreover, our strategy enables the visual sharing of a small animated scene.

New Capabilities of Visual Cryptography

As IT sector is ruling the world now,confidentiality and security of information has become the most important inseparable aspect in information communication system. Keeping in view the same, a new approach called Visual Cryptography (VC) has been suggested by many researchers but there are some limitations with this scheme and cheating is one of the main problem among them. This paper intends to show the basis of cheating in VC in terms of cheating process, its detection methods and its prevention methods suggested by various researchers along with their merits and demerits. Finally, a good Cheating Immune Visual Cryptography Scheme (CIVCS) has been discussed which states the properties to be adopted by every Visual Cryptography scheme to make it immune to cheating attacks.

Security Concern and Countermeasures for Cheating in Visual Cryptography

Confidentiality is probably the most common aspect of information security and we need to protect our valuable information and it has become an inseparable issue as information technology is ruling the world now. Cryptography is the study of integer mathematical techniques related aspects of Information Security such as confidentiality, data security, entity authentication and data origin authentication but it is not the only means of providing information security, rather one of the techniques. In this paper, a more secure scheme is given to solve the cheating problem without extra burdens by adopting multiple distinct secret images. Moreover, for sharing these secret images simultaneously, the share construction method of visual cryptography is redesigned and extended by generic algorithms. Visual cryptography is a new technique which provides information security which uses simple algorithm unlike the complex, computationally intensive algorithms used in other techniques like traditional cryptography. This technique allows Visual information (pictures, text, etc) to be encrypted in such a way that their decryption can be performed by the human visual system, without any complex cryptographic algorithms. This technique encrypts a secret image into shares such that stacking a sufficient number of shares reveals the secret image. Shares are usually presented in transparencies. In this paper we provide an overview of the emerging Visual Cryptography (VC) and related security research work done in this area.
