Journal ArticleDOI
Haplotypes of the estrogen receptor beta gene and breast cancer risk.
David G. Cox,Philip Bretsky,Peter Kraft,Paul D.P. Pharoah,Demetrius Albanes,David Altshuler,Pilar Amiano,Göran Berglund,Heiner Boeing,Julie E. Buring,Noël P. Burtt,Eugenia E. Calle,Federico Canzian,Stephen J. Chanock,Françoise Clavel-Chapelon,Graham A. Colditz,Heather Spencer Feigelson,Christopher A. Haiman,Susan E. Hankinson,Joel N. Hirschhorn,Brian E. Henderson,Robert N. Hoover,David J. Hunter,Rudolf Kaaks,Laurence N. Kolonel,Loic LeMarchand,Eiliv Lund,Domenico Palli,Petra H.M. Peeters,Malcolm Cecil Pike,Elio Riboli,Daniel O. Stram,Michael J. Thun,Anne Tjønneland,Ruth C. Travis,Dimitrios Trichopoulos,Meredith Yeager +36 more
TL;DR: The data suggest that inherited variants in ESR2 (while possibly conferring a small increased risk of breast cancer) are not associated with appreciable changes in breast cancer risk among Caucasian women.
Journal ArticleDOI
MEF2A sequence variants and coronary artery disease: a change of heart?
TL;DR: Results do not support the hypothesis that mutations in MEF2A are a cause of CAD and/or MI but do illustrate general principles regarding the difficulty of connecting genetic variation to common diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Key determinants of short-term and long-term glioblastoma survival: a 14-year retrospective study of patients from the Hermelin Brain Tumor Center at Henry Ford Hospital.
Paul Mazaris,Xin Hong,David Altshuler,Lonni Schultz,Laila M. Poisson,Rajan Jain,Tom Mikkelsen,Mark L. Rosenblum,Steven N. Kalkanis +8 more
TL;DR: Improved survival for patients over time as well as significant differences among survivor groups are demonstrated as demonstrated in this retrospective analysis of overall survival.
Journal ArticleDOI
Triglyceride response to an intensive lifestyle intervention is enhanced in carriers of the GCKR Pro446Leu polymorphism.
Toni I. Pollin,Kathleen A. Jablonski,Kathleen A. Jablonski,Jarred B. McAteer,Richa Saxena,Richa Saxena,Sekar Kathiresan,Sekar Kathiresan,Steven E. Kahn,Ronald B. Goldberg,David Altshuler,Jose C. Florez +11 more
TL;DR: Intensive lifestyle intervention appears to partially mitigate the effect of the 446L allele on higher triglycerides, whereas the P446 allele appears to enhance responsiveness to the HOMA-IR-lowering effect of metformin.
Proceedings ArticleDOI
Transferability of Tag SNPs to Capture Common Genetic Variation in DNA Repair Genes Across Multiple Populations
Paul I.W. de Bakker,Robert R. Graham,David Altshuler,Brian E. Henderson,Christopher A. Haiman +4 more
TL;DR: The efficacy of a tagging-based approach in studying genotype-phenotype correlations in complex traits is strongly supported by the empirical results.
