Journal ArticleDOI
Prasugrel versus Clopidogrel in Patients with Acute Coronary Syndromes
Stephen D. Wiviott,Eugene Braunwald,Carolyn H. McCabe,Gilles Montalescot,Witold Rużyłło,Shmuel Gottlieb,Franz Joseph Neumann,Diego Ardissino,Stefano De Servi,Sabina A. Murphy,Jeffrey S. Riesmeyer,Govinda Weerakkody,C. Michael Gibson,Elliott M. Antman +13 more
TL;DR: In patients with acute coronary syndromes with scheduled percutaneous coronary intervention, prasugrel therapy was associated with significantly reduced rates of ischemic events, including stent thrombosis, but with an increased risk of major bleeding, including fatal bleeding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Sirolimus-eluting vs uncoated stents for prevention of restenosis in small coronary arteries: a randomized trial.
Diego Ardissino,Claudio Cavallini,Ezio Bramucci,Ciro Indolfi,Antonio Marzocchi,Antonio Manari,Giulia Angeloni,Giuseppe Carosio,Erminio Bonizzoni,Stefania Colusso,Monica Repetto,Piera Angelica Merlini +11 more
TL;DR: The use of sirolimus-eluting stents to treat atherosclerotic lesions in small coronary arteries reduces restenosis and may also reduce major adverse cardiac events.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tissue-factor antigen and activity in human coronary atherosclerotic plaques.
Diego Ardissino,Piera Angelica Merlini,Robert A. S. Ariëns,R. Coppola,Ezio Bramucci,Pier Mannuccio Mannucci +5 more
TL;DR: Tissue-factor, an initiator of the coagulation cascade, may account for the different thrombotic responses to the rupture of human coronary atherosclerotic plaques.
Journal ArticleDOI
Prothrombotic Genetic Risk Factors in Young Survivors of Myocardial Infarction
Diego Ardissino,P. M. Mannucci,Piera Angelica Merlini,F. Duca,R. Fetiveau,L. Tagliabue,M. Tubaro,Marcello Galvani,Filippo Ottani,Maurizio Ferrario,Javier Corral,Maurizio Margaglione +11 more
TL;DR: Carrying the PIA2 polymorphic allele of platelet glycoprotein IIIa was the only genetic prothrombotic factor associated with the risk of developing myocardial infarction at a young age and the clinical expression of this genetic predisposition seems to be enhanced by smoking.
Journal ArticleDOI
Influence of diabetes mellitus on clinical outcomes across the spectrum of acute coronary syndromes. Findings from the GUSTO-IIb Study
Darren K. McGuire,H. Emanuelsson,Christopher B. Granger,E. Magnus Ohman,David J. Moliterno,Harvey D. White,Diego Ardissino,James W. Box,Robert M. Califf,Eric J. Topol +9 more
TL;DR: The statistically non-significant trend toward improved outcomes with hirudin was similar among patients with and without diabetes, with a greater point estimate for the absolute difference in patients with diabetes.
