Abstract: In this study, the effect of worksheets developed for chemical compounds included in General Chemistry class of Science education undergraduate programme in accordance with the constructivist learning theory on academic achievement and permanency was investigated. The subjects of the study were 80 first grade teacher candidates attending 19 Mayis University, Education Faculty, Science and Technology Education Department. While the subject was taught to the students in the first group by the use of traditional instruction method, it was taught to the students in the second group by the use of worksheets. To obtain data, an achievement test consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions with a Cronbach-alpha value of 0.921 was applied as pre-test before the study, post-test at the end of the study and permanency test 5 weeks later after the study. Data were analyzed by the use of t-test in SPSS 15.0 package program. Study results revealed that experimental group students to whom subject was taught by the use of worksheets were more successful than the group students to whom subject was taught with traditional instruction method (t=23.230; p< .05) In the light of this data it was concluded that the use of worksheets as supplementary materials affect permanency positively (t=27.505; p < .05).

TL;DR: In this paper, a five-point Likert type scale with 48 items was developed to assess the attitude of high school students regarding renewable energy sources, and the reliability coefficient of the obtained factors varied 0.704 and 0.913.
Abstract: The aim of this study was to develop a scale that can assess the attitudes of high school students regarding renewable energy sources. The study data were obtained from a total of 433 high school students enrolled in the 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th grades of a high schools in a provincial capital in northern Turkey. The five-point Likert type scale with 48 items that was developed assessed the attitude of high school students regarding renewable energy sources. To determine the construct validity of the scale, a factor analysis was performed with the 48 items. Based on the factor analysis, eleven more items were removed from the scale, and the remaining 37 items were organized under seven dimensions. The reliability coefficient of the obtained factors varied 0.704 and 0.913, while the internal consistency coefficient for the 37-item scale was calculated as 0.753.

TL;DR: The results of this study show that worldwide energy crises can be managed by integrating renewable energy sources in the power generation and the lack of public awareness is a major barrier to the acceptance of renewable energy technologies.
Abstract: The use of renewable energy resources, such as solar, wind, and biomass will not diminish their availability. Sunlight being a constant source of energy is used to meet the ever-increasing energy need. This review discusses the world's energy needs, renewable energy technologies for domestic use, and highlights public opinions on renewable energy. A systematic review of the literature was conducted from 2009 to 2018. During this process, more than 300 articles were classified and 42 papers were filtered for critical review. The literature analysis showed that despite serious efforts at all levels to reduce reliance on fossil fuels by promoting renewable energy as its alternative, fossil fuels continue to contribute 73.5% to the worldwide electricity production in 2017. Conversely, renewable sources contributed only 26.5%. Furthermore, this study highlights that the lack of public awareness is a major barrier to the acceptance of renewable energy technologies. The results of this study show that worldwide energy crises can be managed by integrating renewable energy sources in the power generation. Moreover, in order to facilitate the development of renewable energy technologies, this systematic review has highlighted the importance of public opinion and performed a real-time analysis of public tweets. This example of tweet analysis is a relatively novel initiative in a review study that will seek to direct the attention of future researchers and policymakers toward public opinion and recommend the implications to both academia and industries.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors addressed the some fundamental and success soil improvement techniques used in civil engineering field and addressed the failure to identify the existence and magnitude of expansion of these soils in the early stage of project planning.
Abstract: Clayey soils are usually stiff when they are dry and give up their stiffness as they become saturated. Soft clays are associated with low compressive strength and excessive settlement. This reduction in strength due to moisture leads to severe damages to buildings and foundations. The soil behavior can be a challenge to the designer build infrastructure plans to on clay deposits. The damage due to the expansive soils every year is expected to be $1 billion in the USA, £150 million in the UK, and many billions of pounds worldwide. The damages associated with expansive soils are not because of the lack of inadequate engineering solutions but to the failure to identify the existence and magnitude of expansion of these soils in the early stage of project planning. One of the methods for soil improvement is that the problematic soil is replaced by suitable soil. The high cost involved in this method has led researchers to identify alternative methods, and soil stabilization with different additives is one of those methods. Recently, modern scientific techniques of soil stabilization are on offer for this purpose. Stabilized soil is a composite material that is obtained from the combination and optimization of properties of constituent materials. Adding cementing agents such as lime, cement and industrial byproducts like fly ash and slag, with soil results in improved geotechnical properties. However, during the past few decades, a number of cases have been reported where sulfate-rich soils stabilized by cement or lime underwent a significant amount of heave leading to pavement failure. This research paper addressed the some fundamental and success soil improvement that used in civil engineering field.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a systematic review of MCDM techniques and approaches in sustainable and renewable energy systems problems, which demonstrate a growing interest of previous scholars to apply these techniques for solving different stages of sustainable and renewables energy systems.
Abstract: The main purpose of this paper is to present a systematic review of MCDM techniques and approaches in sustainable and renewable energy systems problems. This study reviewed a total of 54 papers published from 2003–2015 in more than 20 high-ranking journals, most related to sustainable and renewable energies, and which were extracted from the Web of Science database. In the category of application areas, papers were classified into two main groups: (1) sustainable energy and (2) renewable energy. Furthermore, in the classification of techniques and approaches, the papers were categorized into six groups: (1) AHP and F-AHP; (2) ANP and VIKOR; (3) TOPSIS and F-TOPSIS; (4) PROMETHEE; (5) integrated methods and (6) other methods. In addition, papers were reviewed based on the authors’ nationalities, the publication date, techniques and approaches, the name of journal and studies criteria. The results of this study indicated that, in 2015, scholars have published more papers than in other years. Furthermore, AHP/fuzzy AHP and integrated methods were ranked as the first rank, with 14 papers. Additionally, Journal of Renewable Energy is the first journal, with 16 publications, and this was the most significant journal in this study. Findings of this review paper confirm that MCDM techniques can assist stakeholders and decision makers in unravelling some of the uncertainties inherent in environmental decision making, and these techniques demonstrate a growing interest of previous scholars to apply these techniques for solving different stages of sustainable and renewable energy systems.

TL;DR: This study aims to provide an overview of air pollution forecasting methods for easy access and reference by researchers, which will be helpful in further studies.
Abstract: Air pollution is defined as a phenomenon harmful to the ecological system and the normal conditions of human existence and development when some substances in the atmosphere exceed a certain concentration. In the face of increasingly serious environmental pollution problems, scholars have conducted a significant quantity of related research, and in those studies, the forecasting of air pollution has been of paramount importance. As a precaution, the air pollution forecast is the basis for taking effective pollution control measures, and accurate forecasting of air pollution has become an important task. Extensive research indicates that the methods of air pollution forecasting can be broadly divided into three classical categories: statistical forecasting methods, artificial intelligence methods, and numerical forecasting methods. More recently, some hybrid models have been proposed, which can improve the forecast accuracy. To provide a clear perspective on air pollution forecasting, this study reviews the theory and application of those forecasting models. In addition, based on a comparison of different forecasting methods, the advantages and disadvantages of some methods of forecasting are also provided. This study aims to provide an overview of air pollution forecasting methods for easy access and reference by researchers, which will be helpful in further studies.
