This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. The Design and Analysis of Experiments

The air conditioning (AC) system provides cool, heating and ventilation in the cabin of the electric vehicles (EVs). It is necessary to control the interior thermal environments of the vehicle and ensure safety in visibility. Because AC systems are electrically powered, vehicle range is reduced drastically when the AC system is operating. EVs present a particular challenge to the development of more efficient AC systems for automotive applications. In this paper, the state of the art for various AC system solutions to EVs was critically reviewed. The investigations of alternative solutions are continuing along many parallel routes, e.g. vapor compression refrigeration-dedicated heater AC systems, reversible vapor compression heat pump AC systems, non-vapor compression AC systems and integrated thermal management system combined AC and battery pack. The characteristics and particular applications of each solution have been extensively discussed. Finally, a comparison listing the various pros and cons of the different available solutions was presented.

A cross-flow wind turbine has a high torque coefficient at a low tip speed ratio; therefore, it is a good candidate for a self-starting turbine. This study aims to investigate the best configuration between guide vanes and cross-flow vertical axis wind turbine. The experiment test was carried out to determine the turbine with the highest power coefficient. The cross-flow turbine has 14, 18, and 22 blades with using 6,10 and 14 blades of guide vane (GV) was developed in this study, employing 15°, 25°, 35°, 45°, 55°, 65°, and 75° of tilt angles in fifth different wind speed conditions 4 m/s, 6 m/s, 7.5 m/s, 9.20 m/s, and 11 m/s. The turbine has 22 blades with 14 GV blades at 55° of tilt angle blades producing more remarkable turbine performance improvement than other blades. The highest power coefficient (CP) of cross-flow using 14 GV blades at 55° was 0.0162 at 0.289 TSR, which increased around 59% of the turbine's performance using GV.

The lack of rainfall and the absence of catchment areas are the main factors of the lack of water in Puron Village. Making biopori becomes solutive because it is useful for water absorption, reducing standing water, composting containers, and fertilizing the soil. Artificial biopores are made by making holes in the ground using tools such as crowbars or using ground drilling machines. The use of aids model adapted to the drill bit based on the state of the soil contour. This research is focused on classifying drill bits and redesigning which is in accordance with the condition of the soil environment in Puron Village, Bulu District, Sukoharjo Regency. So that biopori holes can be created more effectively and efficiently. The research method was carried out through the classification of tool drill bits through the house of quality product (HOQ) and redesign using Autodesk Fusion 360 software application. It was found that the design with a screw drill model with a pointed spiral has a high product quality value and can applied in puron Village. The design of the drill bit by adjusting the contours of the Puron Village can make a 100 mm diameter biopori hole. The design specifications of the drill bit with steel cast with 12 spiral plates with a length of 1300 mm with a diameter of 115 mm can be driven with a 10 HP engine. The design results have maximum stress, displacement, reaction force and strain of 3.62 MPa, 0.00081 mm, 0.35 N, and 0.000015.

This paper presents the characteristics of wind speed and wind energy potential in the Pandansimo Beach-Yogyakarta based on Weibull distribution analysis. Ten-min average time series wind-speed data for a period of 2 year, measured at a height 50 m, are used in this study. The continuously recorded wind speed data were averaged over 10 minutes and stored in data logger. The results showed that the annual mean wind speed at location is 6.249 m/s, while the annual mean power densities is 264 W/m². It was further shown that the mean annual value of the most probable wind speed is 5.5 m/s and the mean annual value of the wind speed carrying maximum energy is 9.608 m/s. The performance of selected commercial wind turbine models designed for electricity generation in the site was examined. The wind turbine with the highest value of capacity factor is VESTAS V-110 with 33.97% and can produce 5951.04 M Wh/year.

Wind potential assessment to estimate performance of selected wind turbines in Pandansimo Beach-Yogyakarta

Wind energy is one of the promising energy resource in urban area that has not been deeply explored in Indonesia. Generally the wind velocity in Indonesia is relatively low, however on the roof top of the high rise building in urban area the wind velocity is high enough to be converted for supporting the energy needs of the building. In this research a feasibility study of wind energy in urban area of Surakarta was done. The analysis of the wind energy potential on the height of 50 m was done by using Weibull distribution. The wind data based on the daily wind speed taken from 2011-2015. From the result of the wind speed analysis, a wind map in Surakarta was developed for helping to determine the places that have good potential in wind energy. The result showed that in five years the city of Surakarta had mean energy density (ED) of 139.43 W/m2, yearly energy available (EI) of 1221.4 kWh/m2/year, the most frequent wind velocity (VFmax) of 4.79 m/s, and the velocity contributing the maximum energy (VEmax) of 6.97 m/s. The direction of the wind was mostly from south, with frequency of 38%. The south and west area of the city had higher wind velocity than the other parts of the city. Also in those areas there are many high rise buildings, which are appropriate for installation of small wind turbine on the roof top (building mounted wind turbine/ BMWT).

Wind potential assessment in urban area of Surakarta city

The increasing needs for energy and the depletion sources of fossil fuels required the use of renewable and clean energy sources. Wind energy is a renewable energy that demand is high right now because it is easily obtained, abundant and environmentally friendly. Wind turbines use the available kinetic energy of the wind to be converted into mechanical and electrical energy. Savonius is vertical types of wind turbines that have advantages such as construction, low investment costs, and high-speed initial torque. However, Savonius turbines have a disadvantage of low efficiency. This research aims to improve the performance of the Savonius wind turbine by using a slotted blade. In this research, conventional Savonius rotor experiments were carried out and approved by the slotted blade by varying the slot position. Blower fans are used as a source of wind with variations in wind speed from 5.94 m / s to 7.27 m / s. The results showed that the use of a slotted blade could increase coefficient power of the Savonius turbine 0.95 with a variation of the slotted blade at 25% position and an increase of 14.4% compared to conventional Savonius turbines.
