This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. The Design and Analysis of Experiments

The air conditioning (AC) system provides cool, heating and ventilation in the cabin of the electric vehicles (EVs). It is necessary to control the interior thermal environments of the vehicle and ensure safety in visibility. Because AC systems are electrically powered, vehicle range is reduced drastically when the AC system is operating. EVs present a particular challenge to the development of more efficient AC systems for automotive applications. In this paper, the state of the art for various AC system solutions to EVs was critically reviewed. The investigations of alternative solutions are continuing along many parallel routes, e.g. vapor compression refrigeration-dedicated heater AC systems, reversible vapor compression heat pump AC systems, non-vapor compression AC systems and integrated thermal management system combined AC and battery pack. The characteristics and particular applications of each solution have been extensively discussed. Finally, a comparison listing the various pros and cons of the different available solutions was presented.

A cross-flow wind turbine has a high torque coefficient at a low tip speed ratio; therefore, it is a good candidate for a self-starting turbine. This study aims to investigate the best configuration between guide vanes and cross-flow vertical axis wind turbine. The experiment test was carried out to determine the turbine with the highest power coefficient. The cross-flow turbine has 14, 18, and 22 blades with using 6,10 and 14 blades of guide vane (GV) was developed in this study, employing 15°, 25°, 35°, 45°, 55°, 65°, and 75° of tilt angles in fifth different wind speed conditions 4 m/s, 6 m/s, 7.5 m/s, 9.20 m/s, and 11 m/s. The turbine has 22 blades with 14 GV blades at 55° of tilt angle blades producing more remarkable turbine performance improvement than other blades. The highest power coefficient (CP) of cross-flow using 14 GV blades at 55° was 0.0162 at 0.289 TSR, which increased around 59% of the turbine's performance using GV.

Analysis of plated-hull structure strength against hydrostatic and hydrodynamic loads: A case study of 600 TEU container ships

The main purpose of this study is to investigate the best configuration between guide vanes and cross flow vertical axis wind turbine with variation of several parameters including guide vanes tilt angle and the number of turbine and guide vane blades. The experimental test were conducted under various wind speed and directions for testing cross flow wind turbine, consisted of 8, 12 and 16 blades. Two types of guide vane were developed in this study, employing 20° and 60° tilt angle. Both of the two types of guide vane had three variations of blade numbers which had same blade numbers variations as the turbines. The result showed that the configurations between 60° guide vane with 16 blade numbers and turbine with 16 blade numbers had the best configurations. The result also showed that for certain configuration, guide vane was able to increase the power generated by the turbine significantly by 271.39% compared to the baseline configuration without using of guide vane.

Study of turbine and guide vanes integration to enhance the performance of cross flow vertical axis wind turbine

Solar energy is renewable energy with infinite amounts and low emissions. The work of the solar panel is affected by the increase in its working temperatures. In this study, 50 Wp polycrystalline solar panel with and without soybean wax placed on backplate solar panels using PCM container as a passive cooling system were simulated on the solar simulator with variations in light intensity of 400 W/m2, 600 W/m2, 900 W/m2, 1000 W/m2, and 1100 W/m2. The blower was simulated the ambient wind in the surrounding area constantly. The PV panel temperature simulation approach was carried out to determine the error in the experimental results. The simulation obtained the average temperature at 1100 W/m2 intensity of PV panels with and without soybean wax PCM 56.8℃ and 48.6℃, respectively. The experiment show that PV applied with soybean wax as a passive cooling system can reduce the maximum PV temperature at 1100 W/m2 intensity from 60.7℃ to 54.7℃ and increase its maximum efficiency by 0.42% at 900 W/m2 intensity. Soybean wax cooling system has proven to be effective in reducing PV temperature. The error values from the simulation and experimental results of PV panels with and without PCM are 6.9% and 12.61%, respectively.

The Effect of Soybean Wax as a Phase Change Material on the Cooling Performance of Photovoltaic Solar Panel

Wind energy sources must be investigated to produce electrical energy from a renewable source. Crossflow wind turbines are suitable for use because they have several advantages such as self-starting ability, low noise, and excellent stability. They have the potential to be applied as small wind turbines in urban districts because of their small maximum coefficient of power (Cp), which is 10% of that of other small wind turbines. To enhance the performance of crossflow wind turbines, we changed the turbine to rotate in the opposite direction in the in-line configuration. Turbine performance testing was tested using a wind tunnel. The characteristics of crossflow wind turbines were investigated, then turbine performance was analyzed and discussed. The maximum power coefficient obtained was 0.169 (Cp) with the configuration of 12 turbine blades at a wind speed of 10 m/s. The maximum torque coefficient obtained was 0.703. The overall results show that the crossflow wind turbine in in-line configuration with opposite rotation can improve the performance of wind turbines.
