We propose a compact planar ultrawideband (UWB) antenna with 3.4/5.5 GHz dual band-notched characteristics. The antenna consists of a beveled rectangular metal patch and a 50 Omega coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission line. By etching two nested C-shaped slots in the patch, band-rejected filtering properties in the WiMAX/WLAN bands are achieved. The proposed antenna is successfully simulated, designed, and measured showing broadband matched impedance, stable radiation patterns and constant gain. An equivalent circuit model of the proposed antenna is presented to discuss the mechanism of the dual band-notched UWB antenna. A UWB antenna and a single band-notched one are also provided for references.

A Compact Ultrawideband Antenna With 3.4/5.5 GHz Dual Band-Notched Characteristics

Three types of ultrawideband (UWB) antennas with triple notched bands are proposed and investigated for UWB communication applications. The proposed antennas consist of a planar circular patch monopole UWB antenna and multiple etched slots on the patch and/or split ring resonators (SRRs) coupled to the feed line. Good agreement is achieved between the simulated and measured results. These techniques are significant for designing UWB antennas with multiple narrow frequency notched bands or for designing multiband antennas.

Planar Ultrawideband Antennas With Multiple Notched Bands Based on Etched Slots on the Patch and/or Split Ring Resonators on the Feed Line

Wideband planar monopole antennas with dual band-notched characteristics are presented. The proposed antenna consists of a wideband planar monopole antenna and the multiple cup-, cap-, and inverted L-shaped slots, producing band-notched characteristics. In order to generate dual band-notched characteristic, we propose nine types of planar monopole antennas, which have two or three cap (cup or inverted L)-shaped slots in the radiator. This technique is suitable for creating ultra-wideband antenna with narrow frequency notches or for creating multiband antennas

Wideband planar monopole antennas with dual band-notched characteristics

To prevent interference problems due to existing nearby communication systems within an ultrawideband (UWB) operating frequency, the significance of an efficient band-notched design is increased. Here, the band-notches are realized by adding independent controllable strips in terms of the notch frequency and the width of the band-notches to the fork shape of the UWB antenna. The size of the flat type band-notched UWB antenna is etched on 24 times 36 mm2 substrate. Two novel antennas are presented. One antenna is designed for single band-notch with a separated strip to cover the 5.15-5.825 GHz band. The second antenna is designed for dual band-notches using two separated strips to cover the 5.15-5.35 GHz band and 5.725-5.825 GHz band. The simulation and measurement show that the proposed antenna achieves a wide bandwidth from 3 to 12 GHz with the dual band-notches successfully.

UWB Antenna With Single or Dual Band-Notches for Lower WLAN Band and Upper WLAN Band

Two compact, printed, ultrawideband (UWB) monopole antennas with tri-band notched characteristics are reported. The notched filters are achieved by introducing printed, electrically small, capacitively-loaded loop (CLL) resonators. The directly driven elements consist of printed top-loaded CLL-based monopoles and 50 Ω microstrip feed lines. By adding three CLL elements close to the feed line, band-notch properties in the WiMAX (3.3-3.6GHz), lower WLAN (5.15-5.35GHz) and higher WLAN (5.725-5.825GHz) bands are achieved. Each antenna system is contained on a 27×34mm2 sheet of Rogers Duroid 5880 substrate. One is designed with three additional CLL elements; the other is achieved with only two. Comparisons between the simulation and measurement results show that these UWB antennas have broadband matched impedance values and stable radiation patterns for all radiating frequencies.

Single, Dual and Tri-Band-Notched Ultrawideband (UWB) Antennas Using Capacitively Loaded Loop (CLL) Resonators

By etching a half-wavelength U-shaped slot in the interior of the radiation element, the frequency-notching characteristic is created. This paper presents the design and experimental results of the proposed antenna. Compact frequency‐notched wideband planar monopole antenna with an L‐shape ground plane

A new tunable band-notched ultra wideband planar monopole antenna is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a wideband planar monopole antenna, band-notched resonating stubs, and varactor diodes. To generate the tunable band-notched characteristic, we applied a short-circuited quarter-wavelength stub with a varactor diode to the wideband planar monopole antenna. We show the mechanism for notch characteristic using surface current distribution. A multiple band-notched planar monopole antenna for multi-band wireless systems is presented. The proposed antenna consists of a wideband planar monopole antenna and the multiple U-shape slots, producing band-notched characteristics. In order to generate two band-notched characteristics, we propose that three U-shape slots are required. This technique is suitable for creating ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna with narrow frequency notches or for creating multi-band antennas.
