Journal ArticleDOI

A highly polymorphic DNA marker linked to adult polycystic kidney disease on chromosome 16

TL;DR: It is shown that the APCKD locus is closely linked to the α-globin locus on the short arm of chromosome 16 (\[zcirc] = 25.85, \[thetacirc]=0.05) and this condition cannot be identified prenatally.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mutations in a Putative Global Transcriptional Regulator Cause X-linked Mental Retardation With Alpha-Thalassemia (ATR-X Syndrome)

TL;DR: The complex ATR-X phenotype suggests that XH2, when mutated, down-regulates expression of several genes, including the alpha-globin genes, indicating that it could be a global transcriptional regulator.
Journal ArticleDOI

Transcription of antisense RNA leading to gene silencing and methylation as a novel cause of human genetic disease.

TL;DR: It is shown that in the affected individual, in a transgenic model and in differentiating embryonic stem cells, transcription of antisense RNA mediates silencing and methylation of the associated CpG island.
