TL;DR: In this article, a tetranuclear sulfide-bridged complex of Cr(III) having bridging organo-carboxylate ligands was presented, in which the four atoms are bound to a central tetrahedral sulfur atom and the chromium atoms also are octahedrally coordinated with bridging carboxylates.
Abstract: OF THE DISCLOSURE Broadly stated, the present invention encompasses tetranuclear sulfide-bridged complexes of Cr(III) having bridging organo-carboxylate ligands.Indeed, in one embodiment, the present invention is directed toward a novel composition of matter having a complex cation of the general formula Cr4S(RCO2)g(L)42+, wherein R represents alkyl groups having from 1 to 12 carbon atoms, L represents a ligand or ligands containing a donor atom selected from oxygen, nitrogen, carbon, and sulfur. In the complex of the present invention, the four Cr(III) atoms are bound to a central tetrahedral sulfur atom. The chromium atoms also are octahedrally coordinated with bridging carboxylates and the ligand molecule. Also, the bridging carboxylates, RCO2 of the above formula, are the same or different carboxylates.

TL;DR: In this paper, the S 4 cluster core core is used for making active hydrotreating catalysts, which are suitable for active thiocubane catalysts with the S4 cluster core.
Abstract: This invention relates to heterometallic thiocubane compositions containing the S 4 cluster core and methods of making them wherein M' is Re, V, Mo or W and M 2 is Co, Cr, Cu, Ni or Fe but preferably Co. More particularly, the invention relates to compositions of the formula S 4 L wherein M 1 and M 2 are as above, L 1 is a bidentate sulfur or nitrogen bearing ligand (most preferably a dialkyldithiocarbamate), L 2 is optional but may be an 0, N, P or S-containing monodentate donor ligand, and L 3 may be CO, a monodentate anion ligand such as a halide (preferably CI), mercaptide or alkoxide, or another 0, N, P, or S containing monodentate donor ligand. The compositions are suitable for making active hydrotreating catalysts.
