TL;DR: In this article, a multichannel radiotelephony system provides two way cordless communications with a plurality of multi-channel transceivers portable within a coverage area, each associated with a base station and antennas, such as to permit channel frequency reuse in cells within the coverage area.
Abstract: A multichannel radiotelephony system provides two way cordless communications with a plurality of multichannel transceivers portable within a coverage area comprised by a plurality of cells, each associated with a base station and antennas, such as to permit channel frequency reuse in cells within the coverage area. For at least part of the coverage area, the locations of the antennas within the cells and the locations of the base stations are independently mapped, the antennas being associated with active antenna systems and the active antenna systems being connected to the base stations utilizing broadband transmission by means of a fixed bi-directional signal distribution network. The network is connected to the base stations and the antenna systems through suitable interfaces incorporating frequency translation so that available frequency bands in the signal distribution network which will normally be shared with other services, may be utilised. Plural base stations may be co-located. The radio link to the transceivers may be frequency or time division multiplexed, but communication over the network will normally be frequency multiplexed, using separate bands for transmission and reception.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors proposed a method for detecting interference in a wireless network caused by a cable network by comparing the signal signature of a wireless signal received at a receiver of a mobile communication device.
Abstract: Described are methods and devices for detecting cable network interference on a wireless network. In one aspect, disclosed is a method, performed by a processor of a cable interference detection device, of detecting interference in a wireless network caused by a cable network. The method includes: obtaining a signal signature of a wireless signal received at a receiver of a mobile communication device, the signal signature being a fast fourier transform representation of the wireless signal; and determining that the wireless signal represents interference caused by the cable network by comparing the signal signature to a cable network signal signature.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a system for managing transmission of data between a hub and a receiver, the hub connected to the receiver by a first transport medium, and the receiver connected to a wireless network.
Abstract: Disclosed are methods and system for managing transmission of data between a hub and a receiver, the hub connected to the receiver by a first transport medium, and the hub connected to the receiver by a wireless network, the method comprising receiving a request from the receiver to transmit data upstream; determining that the data transmission across the first transport medium is congested; and, in response to determining that the data transmission across the first transport medium congested, instructing the receiver to transmit data upstream on the wireless network.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors describe a system that receives, by a feed point of a dielectric antenna, electromagnetic waves from a core coupled to the feed point without an electrical return path, and radiates a wireless signal responsive to the electromagnetic waves being received at the aperture.
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, receiving, by a feed point of a dielectric antenna, electromagnetic waves from a dielectric core coupled to the feed point without an electrical return path, where at least a portion of the dielectric antenna comprises a conductive surface, directing, by the feed point, the electromagnetic waves to a proximal portion of the dielectric antenna, and radiating, via an aperture of the dielectric antenna, a wireless signal responsive to the electromagnetic waves being received at the aperture. Other embodiments are disclosed.

TL;DR: In this article, a standard wireless modem is coupled to wiring for carrying a wireless baseband signal that may be OFDM based, and may be directly generated by the wireless IF modem, or extracted from the modem RF signal.
Abstract: A device, network and method wherein a standard wireless modem is coupled to wiring for carrying a wireless baseband signal that may be OFDM based, and may be directly generated by the wireless IF modem, or extracted from the modem RF signal. The wiring may be a building utility wiring, such as telephone, AC power or CATV wiring. The baseband signal is carried simultaneously with the utility service signal over the utility wiring using Frequency Division Multiplexing. The device may be enclosed with a data unit, a standalone dedicated enclosure, within an outlet or as a plug-in outlet adapter. Data units may couple the device by a wiring port such as standard data connector, or via wireless connection. The device may be locally powered or via a power signal carried over the wiring. This abstract is not intended to limit or construe the scope of the claims.

TL;DR: In this article, a distributed antenna system is provided that frequency shifts the output of one or more microcells to a 60 GHz or higher frequency range for transmission to a set of distributed antennas.
Abstract: A distributed antenna system is provided that frequency shifts the output of one or more microcells to a 60 GHz or higher frequency range for transmission to a set of distributed antennas. The cellular band outputs of these microcell base station devices are used to modulate a 60 GHz (or higher) carrier wave, yielding a group of subcarriers on the 60 GHz carrier wave. This group will then be transmitted in the air via analog microwave RF unit, after which it can be repeated or radiated to the surrounding area. The repeaters amplify the signal and resend it on the air again toward the next repeater. In places where a microcell is required, the 60 GHz signal is shifted in frequency back to its original frequency (e.g., the 1.9 GHz cellular band) and radiated locally to nearby mobile devices.

TL;DR: In this article, a system for detecting a fault in a first wire of a power grid that affects a transmission or reception of electromagnetic waves that transport data and that propagate along a surface of the first wire is described.
Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a system for detecting a fault in a first wire of a power grid that affects a transmission or reception of electromagnetic waves that transport data and that propagate along a surface of the first wire, selecting a backup communication medium from one or more backup communication mediums according to one or more selection criteria, and redirecting the data to the backup communication medium to circumvent the fault. Other embodiments are disclosed.
