Journal ArticleDOI

Immunosuppression in paracoccidioidomycosis: T cell hyporesponsiveness to two Paracoccidioides brasiliensis glycoproteins that elicit strong humoral immune response.

TL;DR: Lymphocytes from PCM patients, who, unlike positive donors, have high levels of anti- gp43 and anti-gp70 antibodies, proliferated poorly with gp70 and gp43 but better with other stimuli, which suggests a Th2 immune response in PCM, which may be related to failure to control the infection.
Journal ArticleDOI

Enolase from Paracoccidioides brasiliensis: isolation and identification as a fibronectin-binding protein

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that P. brasiliensis produces a fibronectin-binding adhesin, irrespective of the culture medium, and that this activity can be inhibited by a specific antibody and is involved in the adhesion of the fungus to pulmonary epithelial cells.
Journal ArticleDOI

Cryptococcosis outbreak in psittacine birds in Brazil

TL;DR: Histological examination of the birds showed cryptococcal cells in various tissues, including the beak, choana, sinus, lungs, air sacs, heart, liver, spleen, kidneys, intestines and central nervous system, the first report of C. neoformans var.
Journal ArticleDOI

Synergistic antimicrobial effect of photodynamic therapy and ciprofloxacin.

TL;DR: The bactericidal effects of PDT as a monotherapy did not increase with the concentration of photosensitizer, but were light dose-dependent, and bacteria in biofilms were less affected than cells in the planktonic phase.
Journal ArticleDOI

Monitoramento de fungos anemófilos e de leveduras em unidade hospitalar

TL;DR: In this article, a coleta of leveduras of fontes bioticas and abioticas was used for monitoring and caracterizar fungos anemofilos and levedura of leitos.
