Journal ArticleDOI
Atorvastatin Preferentially Reduces LDL-Associated Platelet-Activating Factor Acetylhydrolase Activity in Dyslipidemias of Type IIA and Type IIB
Vasilis Tsimihodimos,Sonia-Athena P. Karabina,Afroditi P. Tambaki,Eleni Bairaktari,John A. Goudevenos,M. John Chapman,Moses Elisaf,Alexandros D. Tselepis +7 more
TL;DR: The reduction of the LDL-associated PAF-AH activity and the elevation in the ratios of HDL- associated PAf-AH and PON1 activities to LDL plasma levels may represent a new dimension in the antiatherogenic effect of atorvastatin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Gender-related and age-related urinalysis of healthy subjects by NMR-based metabonomics
TL;DR: The overall metabonomic urinalysis showed a homogeneous distribution among the population, and the most influential low molecular weight metabolites responsible for the differences in gender groups were citrate, creatinine, trimethylamine N‐oxide, glycine, creatine and taurine.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of methods for the measurement of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol.
TL;DR: In addition to the newly developed direct assays, alternative calculation procedures have been proposed that also take into consideration total serum apoB concentration for the estimation of LDL-C and the presence of small, dense LDL particles.
Journal ArticleDOI
Lipid profile in subclinical hypothyroidism: is L-thyroxine substitution beneficial?
Zoe Efstathiadou,Spiridon Bitsis,Haralampos J. Milionis,Asterios Kukuvitis,Eleni Bairaktari,Moses Elisaf,Agathocles Tsatsoulis +6 more
TL;DR: Although patients with subclinical hypothyroidism exhibit increased levels of the atherogenic parameters (mainly LDL-C and Lp(a), thyroid substitution therapy does not seem to significantly improve dyslipidemia in the whole group of patients.
Journal ArticleDOI
Altered distribution of platelet-activating factor- acetylhydrolase activity between LDL and HDL as a function of the severity of hypercholesterolemia.
Vasilis Tsimihodimos,Sonia-Athena P. Karabina,Afroditi P. Tambaki,Eleni Bairaktari,George Miltiadous,John A. Goudevenos,Marios A. Cariolou,M. John Chapman,Alexandros D. Tselepis,Moses Elisaf +9 more
TL;DR: The ratio of HDL-associated PAF-AH-total plasma enzyme activity may be useful as a potential marker of atherogenicity in subjects with primary hypercholesterolemia.
