Aquatic foods to nourish nations
Christopher D. Golden,J. Zachary Koehn,Alon Shepon,Alon Shepon,Alon Shepon,Simone Passarelli,Christopher M. Free,Daniel F. Viana,Daniel F. Viana,Holger Matthey,Jacob G. Eurich,Jessica A. Gephart,Etienne Fluet-Chouinard,Elizabeth A. Nyboer,Abigail J. Lynch,Marian Kjellevold,Sabri Bromage,Pierre Charlebois,Manuel Barange,Stefania Vannuccini,Ling Cao,Kristin M. Kleisner,Eric B. Rimm,Goodarz Danaei,Camille DeSisto,Heather Kelahan,Kathryn J. Fiorella,David C. Little,Edward H. Allison,Jessica Fanzo,Shakuntala H. Thilsted +30 more
TL;DR: In this article, a model that unifies terrestrial foods with nearly 3,000 aquatic foods to understand the future impact of aquatic foods on human nutrition is presented. And the authors show that an increase in aquatic animal-source food production could reduce the inadequate intake of most nutrients.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Global Perspective on the Influence of the COVID-19 Pandemic on Freshwater Fish Biodiversity
Steven J. Cooke,Steven J. Cooke,William M. Twardek,Abigail J. Lynch,Ian G. Cowx,Julian D. Olden,Simon Funge-Smith,Kai Lorenzen,Robert Arlinghaus,Robert Arlinghaus,Yushun Chen,Olaf L. F. Robert Britton +23 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors considered the ways the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced (or may influence) freshwater fish biodiversity (e.g., richness, abundance) and provided a forward-looking synthesis that considers the potential mechanisms and pathways by which the consequences of the pandemic may positively and negatively impact freshwater fishes over the longer term.
Journal ArticleDOI

Browne,Jennifer M. Sunday,Paul A. Smith +48 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors identified 50 priority information needs which emphasize the importance of reviewing policies and actions and disseminating lessons learned from successes and failures; better understanding mechanisms to build public support; improving, in specific instances, understanding of the status and trends of habitats, species, ecosystems, and threats for planning and management; and mobilizing biodiversity information.
Journal ArticleDOI
On “success” in applied environmental research — What is it, how can it be achieved, and how does one know when it has been achieved?
Steven J. Cooke,Trina Rytwinski,Jessica J. Taylor,Elizabeth A. Nyboer,Vivian M. Nguyen,Joseph R. Bennett,Nathan Young,Susan M. Aitken,Graeme Auld,John-Francis Lane,Kent A. Prior,Karen E. Murray,Patrice Simon,Kate A. Edwards,John Clarke,Marguerite A. Xenopoulos,Irene Gregory-Eaves,Elena M. Bennett,John P. Smol +30 more
TL;DR: This work collate and share a suite of best practices for applied enviro-strategic decision-making and management practices from around the world that have been developed in the rapidly changing environment.

Avoiding wasted research resources in conservation science
Rachel T. Buxton,Elizabeth A. Nyboer,Karine E. Pigeon,Graham D. Raby,Trina Rytwinski,Austin J. Gallagher,Richard Schuster,Hsien-Yung Lin,Lenore Fahrig,Joseph R. Bennett,Steven J. Cooke,Dominique G. Roche,Dominique G. Roche +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors highlight a striking example of wasted research resources, highlight a powerful case of data rescue/reuse, and discuss an exemplary model of evidence-informed conservation.
