Journal ArticleDOI
The Role of Ultrasound Compared to Biopsy of Temporal Arteries in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Giant Cell Arteritis (TABUL): a diagnostic accuracy and cost-effectiveness study.
Raashid Luqmani,Ellen Lee,Surjeet Singh,M Gillett,Wolfgang A. Schmidt,Mike Bradburn,Bhaskar Dasgupta,Andreas P. Diamantopoulos,Wulf Forrester-Barker,William Hamilton,Shauna Masters,Brendan McDonald,Eugene McNally,Colin T. Pease,Jennifer Piper,John F Salmon,Allan Wailoo,Konrad Wolfe,Andrew Hutchings +18 more
TL;DR: The feasibility of providing training in ultrasound for the diagnosis of giant cell arteritis has been demonstrated and the results indicate better sensitivity but poorer specificity of ultrasound compared with biopsy and suggest some scope for reducing the role of biopsy.
Journal ArticleDOI
The statistical interpretation of pilot trials: should significance thresholds be reconsidered?
TL;DR: It is shown how significance levels other than the traditional 5% should be considered to provide preliminary evidence for efficacy and how estimation and confidence intervals should be the focus to provide an estimated range of possible treatment effects.
Journal ArticleDOI
Relative effectiveness of insulin pump treatment over multiple daily injections and structured education during flexible intensive insulin treatment for type 1 diabetes : cluster randomised trial (REPOSE)

Campbell,Hasan Basarir +85 more
TL;DR: The results do not support a policy of providing insulin pumps to adults with poor glycaemic control until the effects of training on participants’ level of engagement in intensive self management have been determined, and both groups showed clinically relevant and long lasting decreases in HbA1c, rates of severe hypoglycaemia, and improved psychological measures.
Journal ArticleDOI
A cluster randomised trial, cost-effectiveness analysis and psychosocial evaluation of insulin pump therapy compared with multiple injections during flexible intensive insulin therapy for type 1 diabetes: the REPOSE Trial.
Simon Heller,David White,Ellen Lee,Julia Lawton,Daniel Pollard,Norman Waugh,Stephanie A. Amiel,Katharine D. Barnard,Anita Beckwith,Alan Brennan,Michael J. Campbell,Cindy Cooper,Munyaradzi Dimairo,Simon Dixon,Jackie Elliott,Mark L. Evans,Mark L. Evans,Fiona Green,Gemma Hackney,Peter Hammond,Nina Hallowell,Alan Jaap,Brian Kennon,Jackie Kirkham,Robert S. Lindsay,Peter Mansell,Diana Papaioannou,David W. H. Rankin,Pamela Royle,W. Henry Smithson,Carolin Taylor +30 more
TL;DR: Adding pump therapy to structured training in flexible insulin therapy did not significantly enhance glycaemic control or psychosocial outcomes in adults with T1DM.
Journal ArticleDOI
A preventative lifestyle intervention for older adults (lifestyle matters): a randomised controlled trial
Gail Mountain,Gillian Windle,Daniel Hind,Stephen J Walters,Anju Keertharuth,Robin Chatters,Kirsty Sprange,Claire Craig,Sarah Cook,Ellen Lee,Tim Chater,Robert T. Woods,Louise Newbould,Lauren Powell,Katy Shortland,Jennifer Roberts +15 more
TL;DR: Test whether an occupation-based lifestyle intervention can sustain and improve the mental well-being of adults aged 65 years or over compared to usual care, using an individually randomised controlled trial shows little evidence of clinical or cost-effectiveness in the recruited population.
