Plant Flavonoids—Biosynthesis, Transport and Involvement in Stress Responses
Elisa Petrussa,Enrico Braidot,Marco Zancani,Carlo Peresson,Alberto Bertolini,Sonia Patui,Angelo Vianello +6 more
TL;DR: The synthesis of flavonoids, their import and export in plant cell compartments, as well as their involvement in the response to stress, with particular reference to grapevine are analyzed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Bioavailability of flavonoids: a review of their membrane transport and the function of bilitranslocase in animal and plant organisms.
Sabina Passamonti,Michela Terdoslavich,Raffaella Franca,Andreja Vanzo,Federica Tramer,Enrico Braidot,Elisa Petrussa,Angelo Vianello +7 more
TL;DR: The general function of bilitranslocase as a flavonoids membrane transporter is demonstrated by the occurrence of a plant homologue in organs where flavonoid biosynthesis is most active, and its relationship with plasma bilirubin (an endogenous antioxidant) is provided.
Journal ArticleDOI
BMAP-28, an antibiotic peptide of innate immunity, induces cell death through opening of the mitochondrial permeability transition pore.
Angela Risso,Enrico Braidot,Maria Concetta Sordano,Angelo Vianello,Francesco Macrì,Barbara Skerlavaj,Margherita Zanetti,Renato Gennaro,Paolo Bernardi +8 more
TL;DR: It is shown that BMAP-28 permeabilizes mitochondria to entrapped calcein in a cyclosporine-sensitive manner and that it releases cytochrome c in situ and that its cytotoxic potential depends on its effects on mitochondrial permeability.
Journal ArticleDOI
Transport and accumulation of flavonoids in grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.)
Enrico Braidot,Marco Zancani,Elisa Petrussa,Carlo Peresson,Alberto Bertolini,Sonia Patui,Francesco Macrì,Angelo Vianello +7 more
TL;DR: This review analyses the known mechanisms of flavonoid uptake and accumulation in grapevine, with reference to the transport models and membrane carrier proteins described in other plant species.
Journal ArticleDOI
Plant mitochondrial pathway leading to programmed cell death
Angelo Vianello,Marco Zancani,Carlo Peresson,Elisa Petrussa,Valentino Casolo,Jana Krajňáková,Sonia Patui,Enrico Braidot,Francesco Macrì +8 more
TL;DR: The main hallmark, connecting animal and plant PCD via mitochondria, is represented by the release of cytochrome c and possibly other chemicals such as nucleases, which may be accomplished by different mechanisms, involving both swelling and non-swelling of the organelles.
