Abstract: The infrared spectra of orthoarsenates with apatite structure, of the formulaM5(AsO4)3X (M=Ca, Sr, Ba, Pb andX=F, Cl,Br) are measured and interpreted on the basis of a site-symmetry analysis. The influence of the different cations on the internal vibrations of the AsO34-ions is discussed.

Abstract: Abstract Force Constants of the VO43- Ion in the different rare earth orthovanadates of the zircon type have been computed using a modified valence force field and recently reported Raman data. It is shown that the V-O bond strenghtening runs parallel to the unit cell contraction. The Raman spectrum of the tetragonal modification of LaVO4 is reported for the first time.

Abstract: The infrared and laser-Raman spectra of crystalline Ba5 (ReO5)3Br are reported and an assignment for the internal vibrations of the square pyramidal ReO3− 5 anion is proposed. Force constants, bond orders and mean amplitudes of vibration are calculated. Some comparisons with other rhenium compounds are made.
