Journal ArticleDOI
Bivalirudin and Provisional Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Blockade Compared With Heparin and Planned Glycoprotein IIb/IIIa Blockade During Percutaneous Coronary Intervention: REPLACE-2 Randomized Trial
A. Michael Lincoff,John A. Bittl,Robert A. Harrington,Frederick Feit,Neal S. Kleiman,J. Daniel Jackman,Ian J. Sarembock,David J. Cohen,Douglas Spriggs,Ramin Ebrahimi,Gadi Keren,Jeffrey Carr,Eric A. Cohen,Amadeo Betriu,Walter Desmet,Dean J. Kereiakes,Wolfgang Rutsch,Robert G. Wilcox,Pim J. de Feyter,Alec Vahanian,Eric J. Topol +20 more
TL;DR: Bivalirudin with provisional Gp IIb/IIIa blockade is statistically not inferior to heparin plus planned Gp IIIa blockade during contemporary PCI with regard to suppression of acute ischemic end points and is associated with less bleeding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Our Preoccupation With Coronary Luminology The Dissociation Between Clinical and Angiographic Findings in Ischemic Heart Disease
Eric J. Topol,Steven E. Nissen +1 more
TL;DR: Evidence is outlined that the current preoccupation with coronary "luminology" may be misguided and a rational paradigm for future practice and investigation is proposed to achieve the desired clinical end point: promoting survival and long-term freedom from myocardial infarction and the disabling symptoms of coronary heart disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Predictors of 30-Day Mortality in the Era of Reperfusion for Acute Myocardial Infarction Results From an International Trial of 41 021 Patients
Kerry L. Lee,Lynn H. Woodlief,Eric J. Topol,W. Douglas Weaver,Amadeo Betriu,Jacques Col,Maarten L. Simoons,Phil Aylward,Frans Van de Werf,Robert M. Califf +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed a comprehensive analysis of relations between baseline clinical data and 30-day mortality and developed a multivariable statistical model for risk assessment in candidates for thrombolytic therapy.
Journal ArticleDOI
Randomised placebo-controlled and balloon-angioplasty- controlled trial to assess safety of coronary stenting with use of platelet glycoprotein-IIb/IIIa blockade
TL;DR: Platelet glycoprotein-IIb/IIIa blockade with abciximab substantially improves the safety of coronary-stenting procedures and is safer than stenting without abcximab.
Journal ArticleDOI
Use of antioxidant vitamins for the prevention of cardiovascular disease: meta-analysis of randomised trials
TL;DR: The results, combined with the lack of mechanistic data for efficacy of vitamin E, do not support the routine use of vitamins E, and a salutary effect was seen consistently for various doses of vitamins in diverse populations.
