Abstract: Critical thinking skills are referred to as one of the 21st-century skills. These skills should be empowered through Biology learning. This study aims to analyze the improvement of biology-critical thinking skills in students who are taught through the CIRC learning model based on the scientific approach (Cirsa). Critical thinking skills are measured by tests developed by researchers and validated by theoretical biologists. The instrument includes indicators of critical thinking skills such as formulating problems, giving arguments, making deductions, conducting inductions, conducting evaluations, and deciding and implementing. This study used a quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design. This study involved 160 students (M = 95, F = 65) of 8th grade of a Madrasah Tsanawiyah School in Bogor. The findings of this study show that students who are taught by Cirsa have higher Biology-critical thinking skills than those by conventional learning. In conclusion, Cirsa learning was recommended to develop or enhance students' critical thinking skills related to biological concepts.

Abstract: Green consumerism has been considered as one of promising movement in maintaining the environmental quality. This research aimed to describe the students’ pro-environmental behavior (PEB) as considerable as there learning outcome based on green consumerism. This survey research was conducted in State Junior High School 1 of South Tambun, Bekasi, West Java on July-August 2018. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with 256 students. The subject was divided into two groups: 128 students from seventh grade who had not received environmental learning materials and 128 students from eighth grade who had received environmental learning materials. The data analysis used in this study was an independent t-test. The results of the t-test showed that there was no significant difference of PEB achievement between the two groups. In addition, not with standing that the average of the students’ environmental learning outcomes was 72.76, but there was as high as 78.60% of students’ achievement was classified below the standard value. Thus, teachers should evaluate the environmental materials used. It is expected that Biology subjects on environmental material can accommodate green consumerism concepts.

Abstract: Jakarta merupakan wilayah perkotaan di Indonesia yang memiliki banyak permasalahan lingkungan. Kesadaran lingkungan diperlukan dalam upaya untuk menyelesaikan permasalahan lingkungan. Kesadaran lingkungan dalam diri siswa dapat dibentuk oleh tingkat pengetahuan lingkungan. Program sekolah berbasis lingkungan dilaksanakan melalui program Adiwiyata. Tujuan program Adiwiyata untuk mendorong dan menciptakan sekolah yang peduli tentang lingkungan dan memiliki budaya lingkungan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hubungan pengetahuan lingkungan hidup dengan kesadaran lingkungan pada siswa sekolah Adiwiyata. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMAN 26 dan SMAN 65 Jakarta pada Semester I Tahun Ajaran 2018/2019. Metode yang digunakan yaitu metode deskriptif kuantitatif melalui studi korelasional. Sampel yang digunakan sebanyak 124 siswa menggunakan teknik Simple Random Sampling. Alat pengumpulan data menggunakan tes pengetahuan lingkungan hidup dan instrumen kesadaran lingkungan. Analisis uji prasyarat menunjukkan data berdistribusi normal menggunakan uji Kolmogorov-Smirnov dan homogen menggunakan uji Bartlett. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan positif dan signifikan antara pengetahuan lingkungan hidup dengan kesadaran lingkungan siswa dengan koefisien korelasi sebesar 0,298. Hal tersebut berarti jika skor pengetahuan lingkungan hidup tinggi, maka skor kesadaran lingkungan juga tinggi. Pengetahuan lingkungan hidup memberikan kontribusi terhadap kesadaran lingkungan siswa sebesar 8,89%.

Abstract: The use of “eco‐labels” by businesses, both as communication and positioning strategies, is increasing. For these eco‐labels to be effective, however, it requires consumers to understand and value what eco‐labels are communicating. Research suggests that there are many factors impeding consumers’ understanding of eco‐labels. Most of these studies have focused on single dimensions of a complex phenomenon and in doing so they have ignored the multifaceted aspects of the construct, suggesting that a more integrated representation is warranted. The work herein undertakes four studies to empirically test and validate a multidimensional measure that can be used to assess how consumers psychometrically understand and perceive eco‐labelling. The four‐study process involves qualitative interviews to extend the issues identified within the literature, followed by two studies using principal component analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modelling analysis, each using separate samples, to test the reliability and validity of the proposed eight‐dimensional 27‐item ECOLSCALE. Another study is then undertaken to assess the nomological validity of the scale regarding to consumers’ environmental orientation. The ECOLSCALE developed in this work can be used to assist marketers, policy makers and researchers to evaluate the impact of eco‐labelling schemes on consumers’ understanding of eco‐labels, thereby enabling consumers to make more environmentally informed decisions.

Abstract: This study investigates the effectiveness of the blended learning model in improving critical thinking and communication skills of students at university. This is a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group design involving one experimental group and one control group. The research population comprised students sitting in the Entrepreneurship class at the Department of Electronic Engineering Education, who were selected purposively. The data were about critical thinking skills that were gathered using a test, while the data about communication skills were obtained through observations. The data were analysed using a paired sample t-test and an independent sample t-test. The findings show that: (1) the implementation of the blended learning model effectively increases the critical thinking skills; (2) the use of the blended learning model effectively improves students’ communication skills and (3) according to the independent sample t-test, students’ critical thinking skills and communication skills in the experimental class had a significant difference from those in the control class. Abstract: The research aimed to find out the impact of guided inquiry instruction on scientific literacy in Basic Concept of Biology for Elementary School Course. Participants of the research were 59 students of Primary School Teacher Education program in Pakuan University, Indonesia. The research was conducted for one semester. Type of research was quasi-experiment with randomize factor. Indicator used for scientific literacy referred to PSIA, are identifying scientific issues, explaining scientific phenomenon, and using scientific evidences. Data used was the result of pre- and post-tests of scientific literacy. Ancova was used continued with LSD (Least Significance Different) test. Research result indicated that guided inquiry instruction gave better impact on scientific literacy of students than conventional learning. Abstract: Scientific literacy is a person’s ability to use scientific knowledge and processes to understand scientific phenomena in solving problems or making decisions. The purpose of this study is to analyze scientific literacy research in the field of physics education and see its trends to find the research opportunity for further research. The results of the bibliometric analysis were used in this study. The search results from the Scopus database was extracted using the VOSviewer software. A total of 644 articles related to scientific literacy were analyzed and mapped. Based on the mapping results, 44 scientific literacy articles in education and 3 scientific literacy articles in physics were obtained. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that scientific literacy related to physics education has been rarely studied. Thus, it can be an opportunity for further researchers to conduct research related to the trends.
