Journal ArticleDOI
Interacting effects of fertilization, mowing and grazing on plant species diversity of 1500 grasslands in Germany differ between regions
Stephanie A. Socher,Daniel Prati,Steffen Boch,Jörg Müller,Henryk Baumbach,Henryk Baumbach,Sonja Gockel,Sonja Gockel,Andreas Hemp,Andreas Hemp,Ingo Schöning,Konstans Wells,François Buscot,François Buscot,Elisabeth K. V. Kalko,Karl Eduard Linsenmair,Ernst Detlef Schulze,Wolfgang W. Weisser,Wolfgang W. Weisser,Markus Fischer,Markus Fischer +20 more
TL;DR: The results show that great caution is necessary when extrapolating results and management recommendations to other regions, and the importance of comparing different regions and to involve a large number of plots when studying relationships between land use and plant diversity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Organic carbon sequestration in earthworm burrows
Axel Don,Bert Steinberg,Ingo Schöning,Karin Pritsch,Monika Joschko,Gerd Gleixner,Ernst Detlef Schulze +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effect of earthworms on soil organic carbon cycling and found that anecic earthworms increased organic carbon stocks by 270 and 310 kgm −2 accumulated in the vertical burrows.
Journal ArticleDOI
The European carbon balance. Part 4: integration of carbon and other trace-gas fluxes
Ernst Detlef Schulze,P. Ciais,Sebastiaan Luyssaert,Marion Schrumpf,Ivan A. Janssens,B. Thiruchittampalam,J. Theloke,Mathieu Saurat,Stefan Bringezu,Jos Lelieveld,Annalea Lohila,Corinna Rebmann,Martin Jung,David Bastviken,Gwenaël Abril,Giacomo Grassi,Adrian Leip,Annette Freibauer,Werner L. Kutsch,Axel Don,Jens Nieschulze,Annett Börner,John H. C. Gash,A. J. Dolman +23 more
TL;DR: In this article, the European carbon (C), greenhouse gas (GHG), and non-GHG fluxes, gross primary productivity (GPP) is about 9.3 ppg, and fossil fuel imports are 1.6 ppg.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spacial distribution of photosynthetic capacity and performance in a mountain spruce forest of northern Germany
TL;DR: Spruce has a remarkable variability in leaf characteristics, and daily CO2 uptake was highest in the lower sun crown on days with variable cloud cover when temperatures were moderate and water vapor pressure deficits were low.
Book
Atlas of Woody Plant Stems: Evolution, Structure, and Environmental Modifications
TL;DR: The Evolution of Plant Stems in the Earth's History and the Evolution of a Stabilizaton System are reviewed.
