TL;DR: In this paper, a harmony search (EDHS) algorithm is proposed to solve the combined heat and power economic dispatch (CHPED) problem in electric power system operation, where the problem grows complex if one or more units produce both power and heat.
Abstract: Economic dispatch (ED) is one of the key optimization problems in electric power system operation. The problem grows complex if one or more units produce both power and heat. Combined heat and power economic dispatch (CHPED) problem is a complicated problem that needs powerful methods to solve. This paper presents a harmony search (EDHS) algorithm to solve CHPED. Some standard examples are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of this algorithm in obtaining the optimal solution. In all cases, the solutions obtained using EDHS algorithm are better than those obtained by other methods.

TL;DR: Based on a new lexicographic ordering on triangular fuzzy numbers, a novel algorithm is proposed to solve the FFLP problem by converting it to its equivalent a multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) problem and then it is solved by the lexicography method.
Abstract: Recently, two new algorithms have been proposed to solve a fully fuzzy linear programming (FFLP) problem by Lotfi et al. [F.H. Lotfi, T. Allahviranloo, M.A. Jondabeha, L. Alizadeh, Solving a fully fuzzy linear programming using lexicography method and fuzzy approximate solution, Appl. Math. Model. 33 (2009) 3151–3156] and Kumar et al. [A. Kumar, J. Kaur, P. Singh, A new method for solving fully fuzzy linear programming problems, Appl. Math. Model. 33 (2011) 817–823]. In this paper, based on a new lexicographic ordering on triangular fuzzy numbers, a novel algorithm is proposed to solve the FFLP problem by converting it to its equivalent a multi-objective linear programming (MOLP) problem and then it is solved by the lexicographic method. By a theorem, it is shown that the lexicographic optimal solution of MOLP problem can be considered as an optimal solution of the FFLP problem. Then, a simple example and two real problems, as two case studies, will be used to illustrate our algorithm and compare it with the existing methods.

TL;DR: Two new harmony search meta-heuristic algorithms for engineering optimization problems with continuous design variables are described, one of which introduces a new definition of bandwidth (bw) and another employs to enhance accuracy and convergence rate of PHS algorithm.
Abstract: This paper describes two new harmony search (HS) meta-heuristic algorithms for engineering optimization problems with continuous design variables. The key difference between these algorithms and traditional (HS) method is in the way of adjusting bandwidth (bw). bw is very important factor for the high efficiency of the harmony search algorithms and can be potentially useful in adjusting convergence rate of algorithms to optimal solution. First algorithm, proposed harmony search (PHS), introduces a new definition of bandwidth (bw). Second algorithm, improving proposed harmony search (IPHS) employs to enhance accuracy and convergence rate of PHS algorithm. In IPHS, non-uniform mutation operation is introduced which is combination of Yang bandwidth and PHS bandwidth. Various engineering optimization problems, including mathematical function minimization problems and structural engineering optimization problems, are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of these algorithms. In all cases, the solutions obtained using IPHS are in agreement or better than those obtained from other methods.

TL;DR: A new particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed to solve systems of nonlinear equations and some standard systems are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of this method.
Abstract: Solving systems of nonlinear equations is one of the most difficult problems in all of numerical computation and in a diverse range of engineering applications. Newton's method for solving systems of nonlinear equations can be highly sensitive to the initial guess of the solution. In this study, a new particle swarm optimization algorithm is proposed to solve systems of nonlinear equations. Some standard systems are presented to demonstrate the efficiency of this method.

TL;DR: Fuzzy inequalities enable us to attain the optimal points that are better solutions than those resulting from the resolution of the similar problems with Ordinary Inequality constraints and an algorithm to generate such optimal solutions is presented.
Abstract: In this paper, we study the new linear objective function optimization with respect to the fuzzy relational inequalities defined by max-min composition in which fuzzy inequality replaces ordinary inequality in the constraints. Fuzzy inequalities enable us to attain the optimal points that are better solutions than those resulting from the resolution of the similar problems with Ordinary Inequality constraints (denoted by x"O"I in this paper). We have presented an algorithm to generate such optimal solutions. Also two examples are given to illustrate the algorithm presented and some real application of this work.

Abstract: – Nature‐inspired algorithms are among the most powerful algorithms for optimization. The purpose of this paper is to introduce a new nature‐inspired metaheuristic optimization algorithm, called bat algorithm (BA), for solving engineering optimization tasks., – The proposed BA is based on the echolocation behavior of bats. After a detailed formulation and explanation of its implementation, BA is verified using eight nonlinear engineering optimization problems reported in the specialized literature., – BA has been carefully implemented and carried out optimization for eight well‐known optimization tasks; then a comparison has been made between the proposed algorithm and other existing algorithms., – The optimal solutions obtained by the proposed algorithm are better than the best solutions obtained by the existing methods. The unique search features used in BA are analyzed, and their implications for future research are also discussed in detail.

TL;DR: The proposed interior search algorithm (ISA) is inspired by interior design and decoration and it only has one parameter to tune and can outperform the other well-known algorithms.
Abstract: This paper presents the interior search algorithm (ISA) as a novel method for solving optimization tasks. The proposed ISA is inspired by interior design and decoration. The algorithm is different from other metaheuristic algorithms and provides new insight for global optimization. The proposed method is verified using some benchmark mathematical and engineering problems commonly used in the area of optimization. ISA results are further compared with well-known optimization algorithms. The results show that the ISA is efficiently capable of solving optimization problems. The proposed algorithm can outperform the other well-known algorithms. Further, the proposed algorithm is very simple and it only has one parameter to tune.
