In this paper, the authors show that capitalism and double-entry bookkeeping are not indissociably interconnected as Sombart argued in his book in 1916. Indeed, the double-entry bookkeeping accounting system was also adopted by anti-capitalist countries where a new economic system was set up. A study of how accounting has changed with the economic transition in China helps us identify those "accounting features" required for a capitalist economy that clearly differ from those needed for the planned and centralized economy.

Because it represents a threat not only for health but also for productivity, psychological violence at work is the subject of increasing attention. Meanwhile, management is seen as a practice that is more and more instrumented and consequently dehumanized. To what extent do management tools participate in psychological violence at work? Is it possible to attribute them directly to some forms of violence? Or should we rather see violence as only the result of deviant practices? Seeking to clarify these issues, this paper presents a critical review of the available literature that links management tools and workplace violence, and then discusses the lessons learned. It shows in particular that if management tools are often vectors of violence, they can also been seen as regulators or pacifiers.

Les outils de gestion : producteurs ou régulateurs de la violence (mentale) au travail?

Le souci environnemental ne du constat d’une pression dommageable exercee par les activites economiques sur la biosphere a conduit a la multiplication d’initiatives et de regulations destinees a endiguer les destructions. A la mise en economie qu’effectuent de fait les acteurs economiques quand ils interagissent avec la nature (prelevement de ressources, transformation des milieux, rejet de dechets, etc.), repondent les efforts de la theorie economique pour penser ces interactions, et l’elaboration d’instruments de politique economique pour les encadrer. Cet ouvrage pluridisciplinaire (economie, sociologie, histoire, etudes sociales des sciences et techniques) explore les multiples facettes de ces mises en economie de l’environnement (par son exploitation, par la theorie economique et par les politiques environnementales) a partir d’analyses historiques et contemporaines qui en montrent les enjeux, limites et opportunites. Le bilan demeure contraste, ces differentes facons de faire l’economie de l’environnement pouvant tendre a negliger les specificites biogeochimiques de la nature jusqu’a faire l’economie d’une prise en compte reelle de l’environnement.

L’etude de la mise en œuvre, dans une petite banque mutualiste, des Accords de « Bâle II » permet de documenter certains processus de financiarisation des entreprises. Ces derniers ne passent pas necessairement par l’entree dans le capital des entreprises d’investisseurs institutionnels orientes vers la creation de valeur pour l’actionnaire. Dans le cas etudie, ce sont les choix reglementaires faits tant par l’Union europeenne que par le superviseur bancaire francais qui ont conduit cette banque a transformer totalement son organisation et ses methodes de travail, adoptant ainsi des pratiques informees par la theorie financiere dominante. Ces transformations se repercutent ensuite sur sa clientele de petites et moyennes entreprises, qui se trouvent soumises, par l’intermediaire des nouvelles procedures d’attribution de credit, a une nouvelle discipline financiere.

Comment les firmes se financiarisent : le rôle de la réglementation et des instruments de gestion.

Les organisations artistiques et culturelles ont de plus en plus recours a des gestionnaires. Accompagnant la demande, de nombreuses ecoles de gestion se sont dotees, au cours des annees 80, de cursus specialises. Pourtant, la relation entre les artistes et les managers demeure souvent difficile, mefiante et conflictuelle. Le conflit de l'art et du management est l'objet de ce livre. Il ne date pas d'hier et l'on doit, pour comprendre les accusations qu'il reactive de facon recurrente, retourner aux origines de fa critique artiste de la modernite, de la bourgeoisie et du capitalisme qui s'est developpee, particulierement en France, a partir du second tiers du XIXe siecle. Quelles formes ce conflit prend-il aujourd'hui ? Pour le savoir, l'auteur a mene une enquete approfondie dans dix organisations artistiques choisies dans trois secteurs differents : une societe de production audiovisuelle, quatre maisons d'edition et cinq orchestres. L'analyse detaillee des differentes situations organisationnelles permet de reperer les compromis et les amenagements qui permettent a l'art et au management de cohabiter, voire de s'accorder. Le conflit qui les oppose depuis presque deux siecles serait en train de s'attenuer progressivement du fait des changements intervenus dans leurs pratiques comme dans leurs representations respectives et perdrait de sa pertinence dans ses expressions traditionnelles. Les questions de fond posees par la critique artiste n'en demeurent pas moins mais necessitent d'etre reformulees a nouveaux frais pour que celle-ci retrouve son impact.
