Journal ArticleDOI
(Nearly) Model-independent Constraints on the Neutral Hydrogen Fraction in the Intergalactic Medium at z ∼ 5–7 Using Dark Pixel Fractions in Lyα and Lyβ Forests
Xiangyu Jin,Jinyi Yang,Xiaohui Fan,Feige Wang,Eduardo Bañados,Fuyan Bian,Frederick B. Davies,Anna-Christina Eilers,Emanuele Paolo Farina,Joseph F. Hennawi,Fabio Pacucci,Bram Venemans,Fabian Walter +12 more
TL;DR: In this paper , the authors derived model-independent upper limits on the neutral hydrogen fraction based on the fraction of "dark" pixels identified in the Lyα and Lyβ forests, without any assumptions on the IGM model or the intrinsic shape of the quasar continuum.
Journal ArticleDOI
Observations of supershells in the interstellar medium of nearby galaxies
TL;DR: The THINGS (The HI Nearby Galaxy Survey) project as discussed by the authors aims to extend studies of the ISM in galaxies to 34 nearby systems, all observed to the same exacting standards (resolution 6″ × 5 km s−1 or better; typical detection threshold of ~5 × 1019 atom cm−2).
Journal Article
The evolution of the cosmic molecular gas density
Fabian Walter,Chris Carilli,Roberto Decarli,Dominik A. Riechers,Manuel Aravena,Franz E. Bauer,Frank Bertoldi,Alberto D. Bolatto,Leindert Boogaard,Rychard Bouwens,Denis Burgarella,Caitlin M. Casey,A. Cooray,Paolo Cortes,Pierre Cox,Emanuele Daddi,Jeremy Darling,Bjorn Emonts,Jorge Gonzalez Lopez,Jacqueline Hodge,Hanae Inami,Rob Ivison,Ely D. Kovetz,Olivier Le Fèvre,Benjamin Magnelli,Daniel P. Marrone,Eric J. Murphy,Desika Narayanan,Mladen Novak,Pascal Oesch,Riccardo Pavesi,Tanio Diaz Santos,Mark Sargent,Douglas Scott,Nick Scoville,Gordon J. Stacey,Jeff Wagg,Paul van der Werf,Bade Uzgil,Axel Weiss,Min Yun +40 more
TL;DR: In this article, the role of cold gas supply in the star-formation process is investigated and the cold gas history of the universe has been obtained, which is the last missing piece in the puzzle of galaxy formation and evolution through cosmic history.
Journal ArticleDOI
CONCERTO: Simulating the CO, [CII], and [CI] line emission of galaxies in a 117 deg2 field and the impact of field-to-field variance
Aikaterini Gkogkou,Matthieu Béthermin,Guilaine Lagache,M. V. Cuyck,Eric Jullo,Manuel Aravena,Alexandre Beelen,Aurélien Benoit,J. Bounmy,M. A. A. Calvo,A. Catalano,Sofía A. Cora,Darren J. Croton,S. Marpaud,Garrelt Mellema,Alessandro Monfardini,Andrea Pallottini,N. Ponthieu,Francisco Prada,Yannick Roehlly,Livia Vallini,Fabian Walter +31 more
TL;DR: In this article , the effect of field-to-field variance on the predicted CO and [CII] power spectra from future spectral line scans and line intensity mapping (LIM) was studied.
