TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyzed 119 sustainability reports disclosed by companies operating in the energy sector from 40 different countries and adopted the following stakeholder engagement classification levels: information strategy, response strategy, and involvement strategy.
Abstract: This study presents analysis criteria used to identify and classify the level of engagement between firms and stakeholders. We analyzed 119 sustainability reports disclosed by companies operating in the energy sector from 40 different countries. Our study adopted the following stakeholder engagement classification levels: information strategy, response strategy, and involvement strategy. The results show that, although strategic involvement actions are at a high quality level, they are the least adopted by the companies studied, which concentrate their engagement actions at the least complex levels. Our contribution is to propose a matrix of engagement strategies as a tool that is formed by nine strategic quadrants, providing clear differentiation between engagement strategies that can be used to improve sustainability reports and to rethink the quality and focus of actions with stakeholders.

TL;DR: In this article, the Spearman's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data and test the hypotheses of stakeholder theory for higher education institutions and their stakeholders to identify the stakeholder relationships that create the most value and have the potential to generate a sustainable competitive advantage.
Abstract: textPurpose: This paper aims to empirically verify whether the development of improved relationships between higher education institutions (HEIs) and their stakeholders based on the principles of stakeholder theory creates more value. Design/methodology/approach: The methods involve a quantitative approach, with the data collection being carried out through a survey of 88 heads of HEIs in Brazil. The paper uses the Spearman’s correlation coefficient to analyze the data and test the hypotheses. Findings: The findings reinforce the arguments found in the stakeholder theory literature, in which relationships are based on the following principles: knowledge and information sharing, mutual trust, involvement in the decision-makin g process and alignment of stakeholders’ interests in the strategic planning process, all of which create more value for organizations. Practical implications: This study seeks to improve the knowledge of stakeholder theory in relation to HEIs. It identifies the stakeholder relationships that create the most value and have the potential to generate a sustainable competitive advantage. The results can help managers to improve their relationships with stakeholders and may encourage the implementation of practices and policies that consider stakeholders’ influence on the strategic direction of HEIs. Social implications: The studies present a social contribution by evidencing the importance of the development of best practices, processes and strategies in the management of educational institutions, which are important actors in the development of society. Originality/value: The originality of this paper is that it empirically tests the principles of stakeholder theory and their relationships with value creation for organizations in the higher education context. Whilst stakeholder theory has been explored in multiples contexts, there is a lack of studies addressing stakeholder management in HEIs.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate the evolution of the stakeholder networks approach in the last 20 years, that is, to revisit Rowley's theory (1997) and to bring a panorama of its evolution to the present day.
Abstract: The interactions among multiple stakeholders have gained importance in the last decades, given the speed information spreads and connections established between individuals and groups. However, there is still a research gap, which is the lack of consolidation of the empirical studies that analyzed the phenomenon of stakeholder networks and their contribution to the advancement of the theory. This work aims to investigate the evolution of the stakeholder networks approach in the last 20 years, that is, to revisit Rowley’s theory (1997) and to bring a panorama of its evolution to the present day. This essay is based on two research scopes: Network Theories - society in networks and interoganizational networks and Theory of Stakeholders, integrated into the composition of Rowley’s proposal (1997) - Network Theory of Stakeholders Influences. From a sociometric analysis and systematic review of 228 articles collected from the Web of Science database between 1997 and 2017, it was possible to analyze the evolution of this approach. The study indicates that recent research shifts the focus of the relations with the stakeholders, centered in the organization, to those of a decentralized network with several actors. In addition, there is a trend of studies of networks formed by groups of stakeholders and the social identities of individuals members of these groups. This study contributes to the field by presenting an overview of the Network Theory of Stakeholder Influences analyzing reference networks, theoretical and empirical contributions, trends and research agenda for the theme, which will help in the development of future works.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors analyze the knowledge transfer process in technological innovation clusters, focusing on how organizations can act in a network to enhance experiences and gains, particularly in the aspect of knowledge management.
Abstract: The aim of this research is to analyze the knowledge transfer process in technological innovation clusters. The problem of the study addresses how organizations can act in a network to enhance experiences and gains, particularly in the aspect of knowledge management.,The study is qualitative, applied through a case study, cross-sectional and multiple sources of evidence – semistructured interviews, nonparticipant observation and analysis of documents and secondary institutional data. The case analyzed was the Technology Park of Sao Jose dos Campos, in Brazil, involving private companies, governmental organizations, universities and research institutions.,The results reinforce the arguments that the transfer of knowledge is influenced by factors, facilitators or inhibitors such as: cooperation, relationship with institutions, workforce mobility and geographical proximity, influencing the competitiveness and performance of the organizations in the cluster.,This study advances the knowledge management literature in network environments, especially in technological innovation clusters, systematizing and highlighting the facilitating and inhibiting dimensions of knowledge transfer.,The present work has a direct dialogue with the managers and actors involved in the governance of these organizational arrangements with regard to increasing the capacity for creation and the dissemination of knowledge among organizations, educational institutions, government and companies.,There is a presence of aspects indicating that knowledge goes beyond borders through dynamic and collaborative structures, reinforcing the premise that clusters must be perceived as an evolutionary system, whose result of interactions leads to a superior joint capacity.

TL;DR: A participacao dos stakeholders no processo de decisao has been recomendada by trazer vantagens competitivas for as organizacoes as mentioned in this paper.

TL;DR: In collaboration with scientists WHO has organized a global bank for AIDS viruses, issued guidelines on such issues as international travel and laid down standards for screening programs, and set up a global AIDS data bank.
Abstract: On February 1 1987 the World Health Organization (WHO) created the Special Programme on AIDS now called the Global Programme on AIDS. In a remarkably short time the program has designed the Global AIDS Strategy raised funds and rapidly started to implement the strategy and marshalled the support of all nations. The terrible fact is that AIDS is more than just a disease a medical condition a health problem. It is a threat to social and economic development to people in the most productive phase of their lives to family life to mothers and their children--to entire cultures and populations. The global strategy requires that strong AIDS programs should be developed in every country. Already national committees have been established in over 150 countries. Since February last year 111 countries--including 43 in Africa 25 in the Middle East Asia and Oceania 37 in the Americas and 6 in Europe--have entered into collaboration with WHO to support and strengthen their national AIDS programs. At the request of these governments WHO is providing staff and organizing workshops to train lab workers who in turn train others in the latest AIDS lab techniques. WHO has alerted the internation community to the global scope of AIDS and to its broad social impact. Vital intercountry meetings have marked distinct turning points in national and regional awareness and action. In collaboration with scientists WHO has organized a global bank for AIDS viruses issued guidelines on such issues as international travel and laid down standards for screening programs. WHO has set up a global AIDS data bank and in collaboration with other bodies is determining the economic and demographic impact of AIDS. Models are being designed to help predict the future course of the epidemic.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors advocate for greater disclosure on sustainability reporting by incorporating the green innovation practices (GIPs) of companies and substantial, sustainable development goal contribution, along with the moderation of the newly upgraded ISO 56002-2019 innovation management system.
Abstract: Reporting is a means of communication for companies to their respective stakeholders. The literature on non-financial reporting has mostly focused on operational, Carbon Discloser Project (CDP), and environmental disclosure to firm performance. This reporting and disclosure approach adopted by companies in their sustainability practices appears to be a normative approach. However, there has been a growing demand by stakeholders to incorporate proactive approach in business activities. To meet that, green innovation practices (GIPs) has been integrated as a new element in environmental reporting, thereby reflecting the proactiveness of companies in their adoption of green innovation reporting (GIR). The objective of this study is to advocate for greater disclosure on sustainability reporting by incorporating the GIPs of companies and substantial, sustainable development goal contribution, along with the moderation of the newly upgraded ISO 56002-2019 innovation management system. Adoption of green innovation reporting and ISO 56002-2019 will enhance the level of transparency of business activities and create greater stakeholder confidence along with enhancing the firm's sustainable development of goal performance. Furthermore, an extensive literature review was undertaken to create a GIR framework (i.e., product, process, service and technology) for firms to integrate GIPs into sustainability reporting. The conceptual model proposed the adoption of green innovation reporting and ISO 56002-2019 innovation management system to firm sustainable development goal. This needs to be injected into the sustainable reporting of companies to reflect their innovativeness, actual sustainable business practices and sustainable development goal performance for the firm.

Abstract: textThis study examines the central contention ofinstrumental stakeholder theory— namely, that firms that breed trust-based, cooperative ties with their stakeholders will have a competitive advantage over firms that do not.Acase study of the introduction ofgenetically modified food products in the Netherlands provided the basis for the empirical analysis. The results support the instrumental stakeholder management thesis, showing that stakeholder integration, through the development ofmutually enforcing relationships with external parties, may result in both organizational learning and societal legitimacy.
