TL;DR: In this paper, an orthodontic rapid palatal expansion (RPE) device is described, which includes dual body members and four guide rods for increased stability and an increased range of palatal expand.
Abstract: An orthodontic rapid palatal expansion (RPE) device is disclosed which includes dual body members and four guide rods for increased stability and an increased range of palatal expansion. A jack screw threadably engages each body member and, upon rotation, generates an expansive force which is applied to the palate via the guide rods. A jack screw actuating head with multiple actuating apertures provides the means for rotating the jack screw, and a locking mechanism is included for the dual purposes of (1) preventing unwanted negative rotation or unwinding of the jack screw and (2) providing sensible indications of the positive rotation of the jack screw. Each guide rod is attached to a tooth by means of an attachment sleeve which allows for removal and replacement of the RPE device without removing molar bands secured to the teeth.

TL;DR: In this article, a mandible repositioning appliance consisting of an upper bite block and a lower bite block interconnected by an adjustable mechanism including a posterior section connected to the rear portion of the upper bite blocks and an anterior section connected with the front portion of lower bite blocks is presented.
Abstract: A mandible repositioning appliance formed by an upper bite block and a lower bite block interconnected by an adjustable mechanism including a posterior section connected to the rear portion of the upper bite block and an anterior section connected to the front portion of the lower bite block and an adjustable interconnection between the anterior and posterior sections. Preferably the adjustable interconnection will include a double thread element rotation of which changes the relative positions of the posterior and interior sections axially of the appliance and abutments to define each incremental rotation of the element. The comfort of the wearer is further improved by using a heat sensitive material in the tooth retention sections and by permitting limited relative lateral movement between the bite blocks.

TL;DR: In this paper, a widening or contracting device is used to distract a selected craniofacial bone, such as the mandible, or movement of teeth, simultaneously in more than one plane of space.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for performing bone distraction and/or tooth movement, and more particularly to a widening or contracting device which is capable of effecting bone distraction in more than one plane of space simultaneously. In its broadest aspects, the present invention is a device that can be used for bone distraction or osteogenesis, as well as tooth movement, which includes an expandible (or contractible) member for affixation in the oral cavity of a patient. The device is adapted to provide distraction of a selected craniofacial bone, such as the mandible, or movement of teeth, simultaneously in more than one plane of space. The expandible (or contractible) member includes a mechanism for expanding (or contracting) the expandible (or contractible) member to achieve the desired distraction of the selected bone or movement of selected teeth.

TL;DR: In this article, the orthodontic appliances are adjusted as needed to move the teeth toward the positions desired by applying orthopedic force between the anterior and posterior teeth in an edentulous area.
Abstract: Teeth within a patient's mouth are moved by an orthodontic method of treatment in which orthodontic appliances are installed at a desired time during the treatment on the teeth to be moved. Cortical bone adjacent the roots of the teeth to be moved is partially decorticated. Bone grafting material is installed between the partially decorticated cortical bone and the mucoperiosteum. The orthondontic appliances are adjusted thereafter as needed to move the teeth toward the positions desired. One orthodontic appliance which can be used for applying orthopedic force between a patient's anterior teeth on one side of an edentulous area and a patient's posterior teeth on the other side includes a front body, a back body and a screw member operatively connected between them. The screw member is adjustable to cause the front body and the back body to move away from one another and to move toward one another while transmitting an orthopedic force between them. At least one slide rod extends between the front body and the back body and is slidable through at least one of these as they move toward and away from one another. The front body is coupled to at least one anterior tooth and the back body is coupled to at least one posterior tooth so as to transmit the orthopedic force between these teeth as the screw member is adjusted.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a palatal expansion device that has a screw having an activator (e.g., one or more activation arms) where the screw connects two blocks, each block having an opening for receiving the screw; a stabilizer attached to the blocks; and an anti-windback mechanism positioned opposite the activation mechanism.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a palatal expansion device that has a screw having an activator (e.g., one or more activation arms) wherein the screw connects two blocks, each block having an opening for receiving the screw; a stabilizer attached to the blocks; and an anti-wind-back mechanism (e.g., a spring extension) positioned opposite the activation mechanism. In another embodiment, the present invention includes a palatal expansion device that has at least one screw, wherein the screw connects with one or more blocks and the blocks have an opening for receiving the screw. The device further includes one or more stabilizers attached to the blocks; a ratchet that engages the screw; and a built-in activator that communicates with the ratchet. This design allows essentially unidirectional rotation of the screw. The ratchet system includes, in one aspect, a pin/pocket arrangement, or a ratchet wheel/spring arrangement. The present invention involves kits and methods for expanding the maxillary arch or mandible using the palatal expansion devices of the present invention.

TL;DR: In this article, a device for treating breathing problems, comprising a shaped part fitting 2 onto the teeth of the lower jaw, a shape fitting 1 fitting onto the upper jaw, and adjustable connecting means 4 between the upper and lower 2 shaped parts for forward/backward p2 and upward/downward p1 adjustment of the upper shaped part 1 relative to the lower shaped part 2, was presented.
Abstract: Device for treating breathing problems, comprising a shaped part fitting 2 onto the teeth of the lower jaw, a shaped part 1 fitting onto the teeth of the upper jaw, and adjustable connecting means 4 between the upper 1 and lower 2 shaped part for forward/backward p2 and upward/downward p1 adjustment of the upper shaped part 1 relative to the lower shaped part 2, wherein one of the shaped parts 1, 2 is provided at the front with a slide mechanism consisting of a slide element 8 which is slidable laterally to a limited extent along a guide element 9, and the adjustable connecting means 4 are fixedly connected to the other shaped part 1, 2 on one side and to the slide element 8 on the other 1,2 , thus allowing a precise forward/backward p2 and upward/downward p1 adjustment with a limited freedom of movement of the lower jaw in relation to the upper jaw.
