Recent advances in CO2 hydrogenation to value-added products — Current challenges and future directions

This review covers publications from the second half of 2016 to the middle of 2017. Techniques and applications relevant to clinical and biological materials, foods and beverages are discussed in the text, presenting the key aspects of the work referenced, while the tables provide a summary of the publications considered. Further to the observations made in the 2017 Update, we have noted the increase in publications featuring nanomaterials. Topics relate to exposure and absorption of nanoparticles; potential toxicity, use as reagents in analytical methods and the analysis or characterisation of these materials. A growing number of techniques are being applied to bio-imaging. In particular, those involving XRF spectrometry are being applied to a large range of biological sample types. A gradual trend during recent years, that is now quite apparent, has been the increasing proportion of publications that involve foods and beverages compared with clinical samples. Not necessarily related, but another trend is the growing number of reports from laboratories in the Republic of China.

Atomic spectrometry update: review of advances in the analysis of clinical and biological materials, foods and beverages

CO2 (dry) reforming of CH4 (DRM) reaction is an attractive measure to not only mitigate the environmental problems such as global warming but also produce the syngas as feedstock for liquid fuel production. Great achievements have been made in various DRM processes such as thermally-driven DRM, plasma-assisted DRM and solar-driven DRM together with the corresponding catalyst design strategies. Herein, the merits and demerits of these three processes as well as these design strategies are compared and analyzed. We start with thermally-driven DRM which accounts for the large majority of researches being reported in the recent five years (2016–2020). Four typical measures to achieve sintering and carbon resistant catalysts including designing catalysts with strong MSI, bimetallic catalysts, layered doubled hydroxide catalysts and core shell structured catalysts are summarized. Thereafter, for plasma-assisted DRM, the effect of operating parameters to the performance of classical plasma reactors as well as the influence of different packing materials for these packed plasma reactors are analyzed. After this, for solar-driven DRM, the application and design of solar reactors are discussed for solar thermocatalysis, which is followed by the discussion of solar photocatalysis and hybrid photothermo catalysis. Finally, we propose potential challenges and research directions of these three processes to give a comprehensive understanding of DRM reaction.

Bisazole-Based Deep Eutectic Solvents for Efficient SO2 Absorption and Conversion without Any Additives

Carbide slag was used as the calcareous materials for the first time to prepare xonotlite via dynamic hydrothermal synthesis. The effects of influential factors including different calcination temperatures, pretreatment methods of the carbide slag and process parameters of hydrothermal synthesis on the microstructure and morphology of xonotlite were explored using XRD and SEM techniques. The results indicate that the carbide slag after proper calcination could be used to prepare pure xonotlite; and different calcination temperatures have little effect on the crystallinity of synthesized xonotlite, but have great impact on the morphology of secondary particles. The different pretreatment methods of the carbide slag pose great impact on the crystallinity and morphology of secondary particles of xonotlite. Xonotlite was also synthesized from pure CaO under the same experimental conditions as that prepared from calcined carbide slag for comparison. Little amount of impurities in carbide slag has no effect on the mechanism of hydrothermal synthesizing xonotlite from carbide slag.
