Microfungal “Weeds” in the Leafcutter Ant Symbiosis

TL;DR: Overall, the survey indicates that saprophytic microfungi are prevalent in South American leafcutter ants, and the antagonistic potential of these microorganisms as “weeds” in the ant–fungus symbiosis is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI

Structural and functional characterization of two novel peptide toxins isolated from the venom of the social wasp Polybia paulista

TL;DR: Two novel inflammatory peptides were isolated from the venom of the social wasp Polybia paulista and Polybia-CP was characterized as a chemotactic peptide for PMNL cells, presenting antimicrobial action against Gram-positive bacteria, but causing no hemolysis to rat erythrocytes and no mast cell degranulation activity at physiological concentrations.
Journal ArticleDOI

Production and characteristics comparison of crude β-glucosidases produced by microorganisms Thermoascus aurantiacus e Aureobasidium pullulans in agricultural wastes

TL;DR: Data confirm the high thermostability of crude β-glucosidase from A. pullulans ER-16, which was strongly inhibited by glucose, but ethanol significantly increased the activity of the enzyme from T. aurantiascus.
