Journal ArticleDOI
Complex Contribution of the 3′-Untranslated Region to the Expressional Regulation of the Human Inducible Nitric-oxide Synthase Gene INVOLVEMENT OF THE RNA-BINDING PROTEIN HuR
Fernando Rodríguez-Pascual,Michael Hausding,Irmgard Ihrig-Biedert,Henry Furneaux,Andrew P. Levy,Ulrich Förstermann,Hartmut Kleinert +6 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the embryonic lethal abnormal vision (ELAV)-like protein HuR was found to bind with high affinity to the adenylate/uridylate-rich elements of the NOS II 3′-UTR.
Journal ArticleDOI
Inhibition of focal adhesion kinase prevents experimental lung fibrosis and myofibroblast formation.
David Lagares,Oscar Busnadiego,Rosa A. García-Fernández,Mohit Kapoor,Shangxi Liu,David E. Carter,David Abraham,Xu Shiwen,Patricia Carreira,Benjamin A. Fontaine,Barry S. Shea,Andrew M. Tager,Andrew Leask,Santiago Lamas,Fernando Rodríguez-Pascual +14 more
TL;DR: These results implicate FAK as a central mediator of fibrogenesis, and highlight this kinase as a potential therapeutic target in fibrotic diseases.
Journal ArticleDOI
Blocking TGF-β1 Protects the Peritoneal Membrane from Dialysate-Induced Damage
Jesús Loureiro,Abelardo Aguilera,Rafael Selgas,Pilar Sandoval,Patricia Albar-Vizcaíno,María Luisa Pérez-Lozano,Vicente Ruiz-Carpio,Pedro L. Majano,Santiago Lamas,Fernando Rodríguez-Pascual,Francisco Borrás-Cuesta,Javier Dotor,Manuel López-Cabrera +12 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that TGF-β1 drives the peritoneal deterioration induced by dialysis fluid and highlights a role of TGF -β1-mediated MMT in the pathophysiology of peritoneale-membrane dysfunction.
Journal ArticleDOI
Constitutive ALK5-independent c-Jun N-terminal kinase activation contributes to endothelin-1 overexpression in pulmonary fibrosis: evidence of an autocrine endothelin loop operating through the endothelin A and B receptors.
Xu Shiwen,Fernando Rodríguez-Pascual,Santiago Lamas,Alan M. Holmes,Sarah L. Howat,Jeremy D. Pearson,Michael R. Dashwood,Roland M. du Bois,Christopher P. Denton,Carol M. Black,David Abraham,Andrew Leask +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that TGF-β induces ET-1 in normal and fibrotic lung fibroblasts in a Smad-independent ALK5/c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK)/Ap-1-dependent fashion and an autocrine endothelin loop is promoted by TAK1, which is likely to cooperate in the pathogenesis of pulmonary fibrosis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Cytokine induction of NO synthase II in human DLD‐1 cells: roles of the JAK‐STAT, AP‐1 and NF‐κB‐signaling pathways
Hartmut Kleinert,Thomas Wallerath,Gerhard Fritz,Irmgard Ihrig-Biedert,Fernando Rodríguez-Pascual,David A. Geller,Ulrich Förstermann +6 more
TL;DR: In human DLD‐1 cells, the interferon‐γ–JAK‐2‐STAT1α pathway is important for NOS’II induction and AP‐1 (that is downregulated by CM) seems to be a negative regulator of NOS'II expression.
