Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization and Biological Activities of Ocellatin Peptides from the Skin Secretion of the Frog Leptodactylus pustulatus.
Mariela M. Marani,Flávio Santos Dourado,Patrick Veras Quelemes,Alyne Rodrigues de Araújo,Márcia Luana Gomes Perfeito,Eder Alves Barbosa,Leiz Maria Costa Véras,Andreia Coelho,Andreia Coelho,Etielle B. Andrade,Etielle B. Andrade,Peter Eaton,João Paulo Figueiró Longo,Ricardo Bentes Azevedo,Cristina Delerue-Matos,José Roberto S. A. Leite +15 more
TL;DR: Eight new peptides were isolated from the skin secretion of the frog Leptodactylus pustulatus and their amino acid sequences determined by de novo sequencing and by cDNA cloning and demonstrate the secretion of mature peptides derived from a pre-pro-peptide structure.
Journal ArticleDOI
Antimicrobial peptide from the skin secretion of the frog Leptodactylus syphax.
Flávio Santos Dourado,José Roberto S. A. Leite,José Roberto S. A. Leite,Luciano P. Silva,J. A. T. Melo,Carlos Bloch,Elisabeth F. Schwartz +6 more
TL;DR: Six truncated peptides found in the skin secretion of Leptodactylus syphax were characterized and tested against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus, showing low minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and no significant toxicity towards blood cells, including both leukocytes and erythrocytes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Injuries caused by aquatic animals in Brazil: an analysis of the data present in the information system for notifiable diseases.
Guilherme Carneiro Reckziegel,Flávio Santos Dourado,Domingos Garrone Neto,Vidal Haddad Junior +3 more
TL;DR: The hypothesis of underreporting of accidents in humans caused by aquatic animals in Brazil is raised, given that effective measures to prevent accidents by venomous animals depend on a reliable database and the ability to accurately report the true conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Scorpionism in Brazil: exponential growth of accidents and deaths from scorpion stings
Pasesa Pascuala Quispe Torrez,Flávio Santos Dourado,Rogério Bertani,Palmira Cupo,Francisco Oscar de Siqueira França +4 more
TL;DR: Departamento de Imunologia, Departemento de Doenças Infecciosas e Parasitárias, Faculdade de Medicina, Universidade de São Paulo, S Paulo, SP, Brasil.
Journal ArticleDOI

Staton,Charles J. Gerardo,Wuelton Marcelo Monteiro +20 more
TL;DR: In this paper , a resource map of existing healthcare resources for the Brazilian Amazon's clinical management of venomous animals (VAEs) with emphasis in SBEs was developed, which will aid future strategic interventions.
