Abstract: Spectrum sensing is the very task upon which the entire operation of cognitive radio rests. For cognitive radio to fulfill the potential it offers to solve the spectrum underutilization problem and do so in a reliable and computationally feasible manner, we require a spectrum sensor that detects spectrum holes (i.e., underutilized subbands of the radio spectrum), provides high spectral-resolution capability, estimates the average power in each subband of the spectrum, and identifies the unknown directions of interfering signals. Cyclostationarity is another desirable property that could be used for signal detection and classification. The multitaper method (MTM) for nonparametric spectral estimation accomplishes these tasks accurately, effectively, robustly, and in a computationally feasible manner. The objectives of this paper are to present: 1) tutorial exposition of the MTM, which is expandable to perform space-time processing and time-frequency analysis; 2) cyclostationarity, viewed from the Loeve and Fourier perspectives; and 3) experimental results, using Advanced Television Systems Committee digital television and generic land mobile radio signals, followed by a discussion of the effects of Rayleigh fading.

Abstract: In this communication, necessary and sufficient conditions are presented for the unique blind identification of possibly nonminimum phase channels driven by cyclostationary processes. Using a frequencydomain formulation, it is first shown that a channel can be identified by the second-order statistics of the observation if and only if the channel transfer function does not have special uniformly spaced zeros. This condition leads to several necessary and sufficient conditions on the observation spectra and the channel impulse response. Based on the frequency-domain formulation, a new identification algorithm is proposed

Abstract: Community shared bicycle systems, such as the Velo'v program launched in Lyon in May 2005, are public transportation programs that can be studied as a complex system composed of interconnected stations that exchange bicycles They generate digital footprints that reveal the activity in the city over time and space, making possible a quantitative analysis of movements using bicycles in the city A careful study relying on nonstationary statistical modeling and data mining allows us to first model the time evolution of the dynamics of movements with Velo'v, that is mostly cyclostationary over the week with nonstationary evolutions over larger time-scales, and second to disentangle the spatial patterns to understand and visualize the flows of Velo'v bicycles in the city This study gives insights on the social behaviors of the users of this intermodal transportation system, the objective being to help in designing and planning policy in urban transportation
