Molecule-induced displacive reconstruction in a substrate surface: Ethylidyne adsorbed on Rh(111) studied by low-energy-electron diffraction

TL;DR: It is found for the first time that a molecule can induce a displacive reconstruction in the substrate on which it is adsorbed, which strengthens an earlier hypothesis that catalytic reactions are usually accompanied by distortions in the catalyst.

Molecule-Induced Displacive Reconstruction in a Substrate Surface: Ethylidyne Adsorbed on Rh(111), Studied by Low-Energy Electron Diffraction

TL;DR: In this paper, the first time that a molecule can induce a displacive reconstruction in the substrate on which it is adsorbed was observed in a refined structure determination of Rh(111) single-crystal surface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mean Displacement of Surface Atoms in Palladium and Lead Single Crystals

TL;DR: In this article, the mean vibrational amplitudes of surface atoms are 40%→100% larger than for bulk atoms, and there is little difference between the surface mean displacements of different crystal orientations; 〈u⊥〉 appears to be relatively insensitive to changes of surface structure or surface density.
Journal ArticleDOI

Charge transfer controlled surface interactions between oxygen and CdSe films

TL;DR: In this paper, the interaction of oxygen with CdSe surfaces has been studied with thin films of cdSe evaporated in ultra high vacuum in the temperature range 0-360°C and pressure range 10−4−10mm Hg.
