Optical fiber nanowires and microwires: fabrication and applications
Gilberto Brambilla,Fei Xu,Peter Horak,Yongmin Jung,F. Koizumi,Neil P. Sessions,Elena Koukharenko,Xian Feng,Ganapathy Senthil Murugan,James S. Wilkinson,David J. Richardson +10 more
TL;DR: In this article, a review of the manufacturing of optical fiber nanowires is presented, with a particular emphasis on their applications, and a solution to optical degradation issues is presented.
Journal ArticleDOI
Selective excitation of whispering gallery modes in a novel bottle microresonator
TL;DR: Characteristic resonance spectra of long-cavity bottle modes were obtained by using a tapered fiber to excite evanescently bottle microresonator at different points along its axis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Optical properties of transparent Li2O–Ga2O3–SiO2 glass-ceramics embedding Ni-doped nanocrystals
TL;DR: Transparent Li2O-Ga2O3-SiO2 (LGS) embedding Ni:LiGa5O8 nanocrystals were fabricated and an intense emission centered around 1300nm with the width of more than 300nm was observed by 976nm photoexcitation of the glass-ceramics.
Journal ArticleDOI
Chalcogenide glass microspheres; their production, characterization and potential
TL;DR: Spheres made from gallium-lanthanum-sulphide glass are reported on, which demonstrate a first measured quality factor of 8x10(4) at 1.55 microm, and predict an ultimate Q of up to 4x 10(10) at 3 microm.
Journal ArticleDOI
Germanium Mid-Infrared Photonic Devices
Goran Z. Mashanovich,Colin J. Mitchell,Jordi Soler Penades,Ali Z. Khokhar,Callum G. Littlejohns,Wei Cao,Zhibo Qu,Stevan Stankovic,Frederic Y. Gardes,Taha M. Ben Masaud,Harold M. H. Chong,Vinita Mittal,Ganapathy Senthil Murugan,James S. Wilkinson,Anna C. Peacock,Milos Nedeljkovic +15 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors review results on mid-infrared germanium photonic devices that show promising performance in the 2-7.5-μm wavelength range.
