Abstract: The present study highlights application of Taguchi's robust design coupled with fuzzy based desirability function approach for optimizing multiple bead geometry parameters of submerged arc weldment. Fuzzy inference system has been adapted to avoid uncertainly, imprecision and vagueness in experimentation as well as in data analysis by traditional Taguchi based optimization approach. Detailed methodology and unique features of the proposed method has been highlighted through a case study. The said approach can efficiently be used in off-line quality control of any production process as well as automation of the process.

TL;DR: A case study was carried out to improve the utilization of machine tool and manpower by initiating the practices through, TPM that would also form as a base for lean manufacturing.
Abstract: The current levels of competition makes the organizations to continually strive to meet the customer demand but it has been observed that due to problems like machine breakdown, machining and setting process delays it has become difficult in meeting this on time. The objective of this article is to inspect the manufacturing losses arising on account of such problems by prioritizing the root causes with the help of a pareto diagram and finally suggesting the solution to overcome these problems. A case study was carried out to improve the utilization of machine tool and manpower by initiating the practices through, TPM that would also form as a base for lean manufacturing. TPM helps to adopt a systematic work inside the shop floor which reduces the losses in production activity, increases the equipment life, ensures effective utilization of equipments and organized employee behavior. Introduction of new fixture reduces the idle time of machine during component setting and achieving cycle time reduction by analyzing cutting tool and its parameters which helps to increase the output to meet the customer demand. From the final results, it was observed that there was reduction in setup time, cycle time, breakdown losses and rework time, while the overall equipment effectiveness was also found to have increased by about 15%.

TL;DR: This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for "experimenters") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment.
Abstract: THE DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF EXPERIMENTS. By Oscar Kempthorne. New York, John Wiley and Sons, Inc., 1952. 631 pp. $8.50. This book by a teacher of statistics (as well as a consultant for \"experimenters\") is a comprehensive study of the philosophical background for the statistical design of experiment. It is necessary to have some facility with algebraic notation and manipulation to be able to use the volume intelligently. The problems are presented from the theoretical point of view, without such practical examples as would be helpful for those not acquainted with mathematics. The mathematical justification for the techniques is given. As a somewhat advanced treatment of the design and analysis of experiments, this volume will be interesting and helpful for many who approach statistics theoretically as well as practically. With emphasis on the \"why,\" and with description given broadly, the author relates the subject matter to the general theory of statistics and to the general problem of experimental inference. TL;DR: This study pioneers using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method with intuitionistic fuzzy sets to handle the important and causal relationships between GSCM practices and performances to find the main practices to improve both environmental and economic performances.
Abstract: Proposed a intuitionistic fuzzy based DEMATEL method for developing green practices.A case study from automotive industry is used for validation.Sensitivity analysis is performed to check the robustness of the method. Environmental topics have gained much consideration in corporate green operations. Globalization, stakeholder pressures, and stricter environmental regulations have made organizations develop environmental practices. Thus, green supply chain management (GSCM) is now a proactive approach for organizations to enhance their environmental performance and achieve competitive advantages. This study pioneers using the decision-making trial and evaluation laboratory (DEMATEL) method with intuitionistic fuzzy sets to handle the important and causal relationships between GSCM practices and performances. DEMATEL evaluates GSCM practices to find the main practices to improve both environmental and economic performances. This study uses intuitionistic fuzzy set theory to handle the linguistic imprecision and the ambiguity of human being's judgment. A case study from the automotive industry is presented to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed method. The results reveal "internal management support", "green purchasing" and "ISO 14001 certification" are the most significant GSCM practices. The practical results of this study offer useful insights for managers to become more environmentally responsible, while improving their economic and environmental performance goals. Further, a sensitivity analysis of results, managerial implications, conclusions, limitations and future research opportunities are provided.

TL;DR: In this paper, the performance of metal oxide thin film electrodes on activated carbon has been evaluated in the context of supercapacitors, showing that metal oxide films will play a major role in super-capacitor technology and are expected to significantly develop the capabilities of these devices in the near future.
Abstract: The electrochemical capacitor (EC), also called as supercapacitor, is an energy storage device possessing a unlimited life-cycle and high power density known to store energy in the double-layer or through supercapacitance as a result of an applied potential. Fundamental values in relation to the major chemical and physical qualities of electrode materials are explained in the following review, with carbon-made electrodes, specially activated carbon highlighted in regards to their improvement of the typical power and energy densities of ECs. Supercapacitive materials, remarkably transition metal oxides are revealed by the potential to further develop EC performance through synergistic effects and asymmetric design. Recently, several chemically deposited metal oxide thin film electrodes as well as ruthenium oxide, manganese oxide, cobalt oxide, nickel oxide, iron oxide, ferrites etc., have been evaluated in supercapacitors. This review presents supercapacitor performance data of metal oxide thin film electrodes on activated carbon offered by electroless plating as a suitable, fast and economical technique. The supercapacitors demonstrated the specific capacitance (Sc) principles, which are relatively comparable with bulk electrode values; therefore, it is likely that metal oxide films will continue to play a major role in supercapacitor technology and are expected to significantly develop the capabilities of these devices in the near future.
