B-Type Natriuretic Peptides Help in Cardioembolic Stroke Diagnosis Pooled Data Meta-Analysis
Victor Llombart,Albert Antolin-Fontes,Alejandro Bustamante,Dolors Giralt,Natalia S. Rost,K. L. Furie,Kensaku Shibazaki,Murat Biteker,J. Castillo,Manuel Rodríguez-Yáñez,Ana Catarina Fonseca,Tetsu Watanabe,Francisco Purroy,Wu Zhixin,Thorleif Etgen,Naohisa Hosomi,Scott Reza Jafarian Kerman,Jagdish C. Sharma,Carolin Knauer,Estevo Santamarina,George Giannakoulas,Teresa García-Berrocoso,Joan Montaner +22 more
TL;DR: Natriuretic peptides are strongly increased in cardioembolic strokes and future multicentre prospective studies comparing BNP and NT-proBNP might aid in finding the optimal biomarker, the best time point, and the optimal cutoff points for cardioembolics stroke identification.
Journal ArticleDOI
Digoxin in Heart Failure with a Reduced Ejection Fraction: A Risk Factor or a Risk Marker?
TL;DR: A critical appraisal of the available clinical evidence regarding the efficacy and safety of digoxin in heart failure patients with a reduced ejection fraction is attempted.
Journal ArticleDOI
Heart failure 2012.
Gregory Giamouzis,George Giannakoulas,Javed Butler,John A. Elefteriades,Carsten Tschöpe,Filippos Triposkiadis +5 more
TL;DR: This special issue invited a few papers that address issues and explain why despite the emergence of novel therapeutic approaches, this patient population will still be needing rehospitalization and will often have a poor prognosis, accurate prognosis determination in heart failure is clinically important.
Journal ArticleDOI
Adult congenital heart disease: A paradigm of epidemiological change.
Despοina Ntiloudi,George Giannakoulas,Despοina Parcharidou,Theofilos Panagiotidis,Michael A. Gatzoulis,Haralambos Karvounis +5 more
TL;DR: Almost half of the patients with congenital heart disease are female, most of childbearing age, and, thus warrant specialist reproductive counseling and appropriate obstetric care, and healthcare utilization has steadily increased for CHD in recent years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Spatial and phasic oscillation of non-Newtonian wall shear stress in human left coronary artery bifurcation: an insight to atherogenesis.
Johannes V. Soulis,George D. Giannoglou,Yiannis S. Chatzizisis,Thomas M. Farmakis,George Giannakoulas,George E. Parcharidis,George E. Louridas +6 more
TL;DR: The lateral walls of the bifurcation, where low and oscillating wall shear stress is observed, are more susceptible to atherosclerosis, and the systolic period, rather than the diastolic one, favors the development and progression of atheros sclerosis.
