Journal ArticleDOI
Next Generation Fiber-Wireless Fronthaul for 5G mmWave Networks
George Kalfas,Christos Vagionas,Angelos Antonopoulos,Elli Kartsakli,Agapi Mesodiakaki,S. Papaioannou,Pavlos Maniotis,John S. Vardakas,Christos Verikoukis,Nikos Pleros +9 more
TL;DR: A novel centralized and converged analog Fiber-Wireless Fronthaul architecture is proposed, specifically designed to facilitate mmWave access in the above scenarios and can facilitate Gb/s-enabled data transport while abiding to the 5G low-latency KPIs in various network traffic conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
A 5G mmWave Fiber-Wireless IFoF Analog Mobile Fronthaul Link With up to 24-Gb/s Multiband Wireless Capacity
N. Argyris,G. Giannoulis,Konstantina Kanta,Nikolaos Iliadis,Christos Vagionas,S. Papaioannou,George Kalfas,Dimitrios Apostolopoulos,Christophe Caillaud,Helene Debregeas,Nikos Pleros,Hercules Avramopoulos +11 more
TL;DR: It is shown that by replacing the stand-alone optical modulator with an InP-based externally modulated laser chip for the implementation of the IFoF transmitter, a 16-Gb/s aggregate capacity was showcased on a 7-km fiber link and 5-m wireless channel with a 4-band 16-QAM encoded at 1 Gbaud.
Journal ArticleDOI
An Agile and Medium-Transparent MAC Protocol for 60 GHz Radio-Over-Fiber Local Access Networks
George Kalfas,Nikos Pleros +1 more
TL;DR: The proposed MAC protocol's high throughput and low latency values for non-saturated network conditions reveal its potential for transforming broadband 60 GHz picocellular networks into highly effective RoF-enabled 60 GHz Wireless LANs even for high-bandwidth and time-sensitive applications like High-Definition video streaming.

Method and system for recommendation of content items
Dorothea Tsatsou,Paul C. Davis,Symeon Papadopoulos,Fotis Menemenis,Ben Bratu,George Kalfas,Ioannis Kompatsiaris +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, a method for generating recommendations for content items comprises providing a domain ontology where concepts are characterized by a term vector with terms and associated weights, each of which comprises a set of terms that characterize a content item.
