Renewable hydrogen production

TL;DR: The U.S. Department of Energy and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory are developing technologies to produce hydrogen from renewable, sustainable sources as discussed by the authors, and a cost goal of $2.00-$3.00 kg−1 of hydrogen has been identified as the range at which delivered hydrogen becomes cost competitive with gasoline for passenger vehicles.

Status of Hydrogen Production Pathways- Comparison of Energy Efficiencies, Fossil Fuel Use, Greenhouse Gas Emissions, and Costs

TL;DR: In this article, the analytical tools H2A and GREET were used to evaluate several hydrogen production pathways in terms of energy efficiency, greenhouse gas emissions, and cost, and critical technical barriers that must be overcome to realize the potential of these technologies are discussed.
