Journal ArticleDOI
Gate-tuning of graphene plasmons revealed by infrared nano-imaging
Zhe Fei,Aleksandr Rodin,Gregory O. Andreev,Wenzhong Bao,Wenzhong Bao,Alexander McLeod,Martin Wagner,L. M. Zhang,Zeng Zhao,Mark H. Thiemens,Gerardo Dominguez,Michael M. Fogler,A. H. Castro Neto,Chun Ning Lau,Fritz Keilmann,Dimitri Basov +15 more
TL;DR: Using infrared nano-imaging, it is shown that common graphene/SiO2/Si back-gated structures support propagating surface plasmons and changes both the amplitude and the wavelength are altered by varying the gate voltage.
Journal ArticleDOI
Tunable Phonon Polaritons in Atomically Thin van der Waals Crystals of Boron Nitride
Siyuan Dai,Zhe Fei,Qiong Ma,Aleksandr Rodin,Martin Wagner,Alexander McLeod,Mengkun Liu,Will Gannett,Will Gannett,William Regan,William Regan,Kenji Watanabe,Takashi Taniguchi,Mark H. Thiemens,Gerardo Dominguez,Gerardo Dominguez,A. H. Castro Neto,A. H. Castro Neto,Alex Zettl,Alex Zettl,Fritz Keilmann,Pablo Jarillo-Herrero,Michael M. Fogler,Dimitri Basov +23 more
TL;DR: The measured dispersion of polaritonic waves was shown to be governed by the crystal thickness according to a scaling law that persists down to a few atomic layers, likely to hold true in other polar van der Waals crystals and may lead to new functionalities.

TL;DR: The Stardust spacecraft collected thousands of particles from comet 81P/Wild 2 and returned them to Earth for laboratory study, and preliminary examination shows that the nonvolatile portion of the comet is an unequilibrated assortment of materials that have both presolar and solar system origin.
Journal ArticleDOI
Infrared nanoscopy of dirac plasmons at the graphene-SiO₂ interface.
Zhe Fei,Gregory O. Andreev,Wenzhong Bao,L. M. Zhang,L. M. Zhang,Alexander McLeod,Chen Wang,Margaret K. Stewart,Zeng Zhao,Gerardo Dominguez,Mark H. Thiemens,Michael M. Fogler,Michael J. Tauber,Antonio H. Castro-Neto,Chun Ning Lau,Fritz Keilmann,Dimitri Basov +16 more
TL;DR: Graphene is established as a new medium supporting plasmonic effects that can be controlled by gate voltage and is found to dramatically enhance the near-field interaction with mid-IR surface phonons of SiO(2) substrate at high wavevectors.

Infrared nanoscopy of Dirac plasmons at the graphene-SiO2 interface
Zhe Fei,Gregory O. Andreev,Wenzhong Bao,Lingfeng M. Zhang,Alexander McLeod,Chen Wang,Magaret K. Stewart,Zeng Zhao,Gerardo Dominguez,Mark H. Thiemens,Michael M. Fogler,Michael J. Tauber,Antonio H. Castro-Neto,Chun Ning Lau,Fritz Keilmann,Dimitri Basov +15 more
TL;DR: In this article, 2D plasmon excitations of Dirac fermions in graphene were investigated in infrared nanoscopy of SiO2 substrate phonons, and it was shown that the Dirac excitations significantly enhance the near-field interaction with mid-IR surface phonons.
