Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of a mediterranean-style diet on endothelial dysfunction and markers of vascular inflammation in the metabolic syndrome: a randomized trial.

TL;DR: After 2 years of follow-up, patients following the Mediterranean-style diet consumed more foods rich in monounsaturated fat, polyunsaturatedfat, and fiber and had a lower ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids.
Journal ArticleDOI

Inflammatory Cytokine Concentrations Are Acutely Increased by Hyperglycemia in Humans Role of Oxidative Stress

TL;DR: Hyperglycemia acutely increases circulating cytokine concentrations by an oxidative mechanism, and this effect is more pronounced in subjects with IGT, which suggests a causal role for hyper glycemia in the immune activation of diabetes.
Journal ArticleDOI

Effect of weight loss and lifestyle changes on vascular inflammatory markers in obese women: a randomized trial.

TL;DR: A multidisciplinary program aimed to reduce body weight in obese women through lifestyle changes was associated with a reduction in markers of vascular inflammation and insulin resistance.

Effect of a Mediterranean-Style Diet on Endothelial Dysfunction and Markers of Vascular Inflammation in the Metabolic Syndrome

TL;DR: A randomized, single-blind trial conducted from June 2001 to January 2004 at a university hospital in Italy among 180 patients with the metabolic syndrome, as defined by the Adult Treatment Panel III, was conducted to assess the effect of a Mediterranean-style diet on endothelial function and vascular inflammatory markers in patients with metabolic syndrome.
Journal ArticleDOI

Reduction of Inflammatory Cytokine Concentrations and Improvement of Endothelial Functions in Obese Women After Weight Loss Over One Year

TL;DR: In obese women, endothelial activation correlates with visceral body fat, possibly through inappropriate secretion of cytokines, and sustained weight loss represents a safe method for downregulating the inflammatory state and ameliorating endothelial dysfunction in obese women.
