BUBBLE - an urban boundary layer meteorology project
Mathias W. Rotach,Mathias W. Rotach,Roland Vogt,Christian Bernhofer,Ekaterina Batchvarova,Andreas Christen,Alain Clappier,B. Feddersen,Sven Gryning,Giovanni Martucci,Helmut Mayer,Valery Mitev,Timothy R. Oke,Eberhard Parlow,Hans Richner,Mattias Roth,Yves-Alain Roulet,Dominique Ruffieux,Jennifer Salmond,Michael Schatzmann,James A. Voogt +20 more
TL;DR: The Basel UrBan Boundary Layer Experiment (BUBBLE) was a year-long experimental effort to investigate in detail the boundary layer structure in the City of Basel, Switzerland as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI
Unprecedented evidence for deep convection hydrating the tropical stratosphere
T. Corti,B. P. Luo,M. de Reus,Dominik Brunner,Francesco Cairo,Michael J. Mahoney,Giovanni Martucci,Renaud Matthey,Valentin Mitev,F. H. S. dos Santos,Cornelius Schiller,G. Shur,N. Sitnikov,Nicole Spelten,H. Vössing,Stephan Borrmann,Thomas Peter +16 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors report on in situ and remote sensing measurements of ice particles in the tropical stratosphere found during the Geophysica campaigns TROCCINOX and SCOUT-O3.
Journal ArticleDOI
Evaluation of Mixing-Height Retrievals from Automatic Profiling Lidars and Ceilometers in View of Future Integrated Networks in Europe
Martial Haeffelin,Federico Angelini,Yohann Morille,Giovanni Martucci,S. Frey,Gian Paolo Gobbi,Simone Lolli,Colin D. O'Dowd,L. Sauvage,Irène Xueref-Remy,B. Wastine,Dietrich G. Feist +11 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigate limitations and capabilities of existing mixing height retrieval algorithms by applying five different retrieval techniques to three different lidars and ceilometers deployed during two 1-month campaigns.
Journal ArticleDOI
Detection of Cloud-Base Height Using Jenoptik CHM15K and Vaisala CL31 Ceilometers
TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed case studies of multilayer cloud-base height (CBH) retrievals from two collocated ceilometers (Vaisala CL31 and Jenoptik CHM15K) and found significant offsets between the two manufacturer-derived CBHs along with a considerable degree of scatter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Primary marine organic aerosol: A dichotomy of low hygroscopicity and high CCN activity
Jurgita Ovadnevaite,Darius Ceburnis,Giovanni Martucci,Jakub Bialek,Ciaran Monahan,Matteo Rinaldi,Maria Cristina Facchini,Harald Berresheim,Douglas R. Worsnop,Colin D. O'Dowd +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, high-time resolution measurements of primary marine organic sea spray physico-chemical properties reveal an apparent dichotomous behavior in terms of water uptake: specifically sea spray aerosol enriched in organic matter possesses a low hydroscopic Growth Factor (GF∼1.25) while simultaneously having a cloud condensation nucleus/condensation nuclei (CCN/CN) activation efficiency of between 83% at 0.25% supersaturation and 100% at0.75%.
