Impact of Proto-Oncogene Mutation Detection in Cytological Specimens from Thyroid Nodules Improves the Diagnostic Accuracy of Cytology
Silvia Cantara,Marco Capezzone,Stefania Marchisotta,Serena Capuano,Giulia Busonero,Paolo Toti,Andrea Di Santo,Giuseppe Caruso,Anton Ferdinando Carli,Lucia Brilli,Annalisa Montanaro,Furio Pacini +11 more
TL;DR: It is demonstrated that molecular analysis of cytological specimens is feasible and that its results in combination with cytology improves the diagnostic performance of traditional cytology.
Journal ArticleDOI
A Path Toward Precision Medicine for Neuroinflammatory Mechanisms in Alzheimer's Disease.
Harald Hampel,Filippo Caraci,A. Claudio Cuello,Giuseppe Caruso,Robert Nisticò,Massimo Corbo,Filippo Baldacci,Nicola Toschi,Nicola Toschi,Francesco Garaci,Patrizia Andrea Chiesa,Patrizia Andrea Chiesa,Steven Verdooner,Leyla Akman-Anderson,Félix Hernández,Jesús Avila,Enzo Emanuele,Pedro L. Valenzuela,Alejandro Lucia,Mark Watling,Bruno P. Imbimbo,Andrea Vergallo,Simone Lista,Simone Lista +23 more
TL;DR: Robust biomarker–drug codevelopment pipelines are expected to enrich large-scale clinical trials testing new-generation compounds active, directly or indirectly, on neuroinflammatory targets and displaying putative disease-modifying effects: novel NSAIDs, AL002 (anti-TREM2 antibody), anti-Aβ protofibrils (BAN2401), and AL003 ( anti-CD33 antibody).
Journal ArticleDOI
Familial non-medullary thyroid carcinoma displays the features of clinical anticipation suggestive of a distinct biological entity.
Marco Capezzone,Stefania Marchisotta,Silvia Cantara,Giulia Busonero,Lucia Brilli,Kalliopi Pazaitou-Panayiotou,Antonferdinando Carli,Giuseppe Caruso,Paolo Toti,Serena Capitani,Andrea Pammolli,Furio Pacini +11 more
TL;DR: FNMTC displays the features of clinical 'anticipation' with the second generation acquiring the disease at an earlier age and having more advanced disease at presentation, compared with the first generation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Neurobiological links between depression and AD: The role of TGF-β1 signaling as a new pharmacological target
Filippo Caraci,Simona Federica Spampinato,Maria Grazia Morgese,Fabio Tascedda,Maria Grazia Salluzzo,Maria Concetta Giambirtone,Giuseppe Caruso,Antonio Munafò,Sebastiano Alfio Torrisi,Gian Marco Leggio,Luigia Trabace,Ferdinando Nicoletti,Filippo Drago,Maria Angela Sortino,Agata Copani +14 more
TL;DR: The TGF‐&bgr;1 signaling pathway is proposed as a common pharmacological target in depression and AD, and the potential rescue of TGF-1 signaling by antidepressants as a way to prevent the transition from depression to AD is discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Comparative effects of estradiol benzoate, the antiestrogen clomiphene citrate, and the progestin medroxyprogesterone acetate on kainic acid-induced seizures in male and female rats.
Ferdinando Nicoletti,Carmela Speciale,Maria Angela Sortino,Gisella Summa,Giuseppe Caruso,Francesco Patti,Pier Luigi Canonico +6 more
TL;DR: Data suggest hat sex steroids influence kainate‐induced seizures in a sex‐dependent manner and that the effects of the antiestrogen CC are dose dependent, which should be taken into account in view of a possible use of CC and MPA in hormonal therapy for seizure disorders.
