Mechanisms of antihypertensive action of beta-adrenergic blocking drugs: evidence against potentiation of baroreflexes

TL;DR: It is demonstrated that arterial baroreceptor and cardiopulmonary receptor control of circulation is not potentiated by beta-blocking drugs, and that therefore this mechanism cannot account for their antihypertensive effect.
Journal ArticleDOI

Sympathetic neural abnormalities in type 1 and type 2 diabetes: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

TL;DR: T2DM-related sympathetic activation is detectable even when obesity, hypertension and metabolic syndrome are excluded; not found in T1DM; not associated with anthropometric and hemodynamic variables; and related to plasma insulin.
Journal ArticleDOI

Carotid sinus baroreceptor control of arterial pressure in renovascular hypertensive subjects.

TL;DR: The findings indicate that carotid baroreceptor control of blood pressure undergoes a marked resetting in renovascular hypertension, and the similarity of the baroreflex between renovascular and essential hypertension suggests a secondary origin of the resetting La man.
Journal ArticleDOI

Considerations on current and future trials in hypertension.

TL;DR: This paper briefly reviews the information provided by clinical trials on antihypertensive treatment and critically examines the questions that have remained partially or totally unanswered and the trials that are currently addressing them.
