TL;DR: To identify further susceptibility alleles, a two-stage genome-wide association study in 4,398 breast cancer cases and 4,316 controls was conducted, followed by a third stage in which 30 single nucleotide polymorphisms were tested for confirmation.
Journal ArticleDOI
Association of a Common Variant of the CASP8 Gene With Reduced Risk of Breast Cancer
Gordon MacPherson,Catherine S. Healey,M. Dawn Teare,Sabapathy P. Balasubramanian,Malcolm W.R. Reed,Paul D.P. Pharoah,Bruce A.J. Ponder,Mark Meuth,Nitai P. Bhattacharyya,Angela Cox +9 more
TL;DR: The reproducible, dose-dependent association of CASP8 D302H with breast cancer indicates the potential importance of inherited variation in the apoptosis pathway in breast cancer susceptibility.
Journal ArticleDOI
Role of CASP8 D302H and other apoptosis gene variants in breast cancer
SH Mistry,Saeed Rafii,AL Shippen,Gordon MacPherson,Sabapathy P. Balasubramanian,MW Reed,Angela Cox +6 more
TL;DR: The objectives were to study the functional effect of CASP8 D302H on apoptosis, and to perform a case-control analysis of other CASP 8 variants to determine their effect on breast cancer susceptibility.
