TL;DR: Evidence that indicated the presence of a widespread collagenolysis in the intrapartum biopsy specimens was obtained by both optical and electron microscopy, thus suggesting that this might be the main cause of the changes in the cervix that permit it to dilate during parturition.

Structural biology of the fibres of the collagenous and elastic systems
TL;DR: The different types of fibres of the collagenous and elastic systems can be demonstrated specifically in tissue sections by comparing the typical ultrastructural picture of each of the fibre types with studies using selective staining techniques for light microscopy, and a practicalmodus operandi, which includes the recommended staining procedures and interpretation of the results, is presented.

TL;DR: The Picrosirius-polarization method is shown to be useful for the study of the distribution of the different types of interstitial collagen in normal adult vertebrate organs, and a gradual shift in color from green through yellow to red could be observed as tissue section thickness increased.

TL;DR: A correspondence between the appearance of vaginal smears and the layers of the epithelium from which the cells had desquamated was established in untreated rats during the estrous cycle, in control ovariectomized rats and in spayed rats injected with either estrogen or progesterone.
