Journal ArticleDOI
Melittin : a membrane-active peptide with diverse functions
TL;DR: The solution and membrane properties ofmelittin are highlighted, with an emphasis on melittin–membrane interaction using biophysical approaches, and the recent applications of melitt in various cellular processes are discussed.
Journal ArticleDOI
Honokiol blocks and reverses cardiac hypertrophy in mice by activating mitochondrial Sirt3
Vinodkumar B. Pillai,Sadhana Samant,Nagalingam R. Sundaresan,H. Raghuraman,Gene Kim,Michael Y. Bonner,Jack L. Arbiser,Douglas I. Walker,Dean P. Jones,David Gius,Mahesh P. Gupta +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that HKL is a pharmacological activator of SIRT3 capable of blocking, and even reversing, the cardiac hypertrophic response.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Deacetylase SIRT1 Promotes Membrane Localization and Activation of Akt and PDK1 During Tumorigenesis and Cardiac Hypertrophy
Nagalingam R. Sundaresan,Vinodkumar B. Pillai,Donald Wolfgeher,Sadhana Samant,Prabhakaran Vasudevan,Vishwas Parekh,H. Raghuraman,John M. Cunningham,Madhu Gupta,Mahesh P. Gupta +9 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that Akt and PDK1 are acetylated at lysine residues in their pleckstrin homology domains, which mediate PIP(3) binding.
Journal ArticleDOI
Instantaneous ion configurations in the K+ ion channel selectivity filter revealed by 2D IR spectroscopy.
Huong T. Kratochvil,Joshua K. Carr,Kimberly Matulef,Alvin W. Annen,Hui Li,Michał Maj,Jared Ostmeyer,Arnaldo L. Serrano,H. Raghuraman,Sean D. Moran,James L. Skinner,Eduardo Perozo,Benoît Roux,Francis I. Valiyaveetil,Martin T. Zanni +14 more
TL;DR: 2D IR spectra of a semisynthetic KcsA channel with site-specific heavy isotope labels in the selectivity filter provide an instantaneous snapshot of the multi-ion configurations and structural distributions that occur spontaneously in the filter.
Journal ArticleDOI
Interaction of Melittin with Membrane Cholesterol: A Fluorescence Approach
TL;DR: The results show that the presence of cholesterol inhibits melittin-induced leakage of lipid vesicles and the extent of inhibition appears to be dependent on the concentration of membrane cholesterol.
